We all watched a very exciting game yesterday after between Memphis and Tennessee. It was a high scoring, double overtime affair that ended with a 2 point Tiger win. This game was fun to watch and looked like to really good teams. However, it's only because those team want to the play the exact same way (up & down the court). The Memphis Defense looked horrible in the half court against the vol's, and made many mistakes that lead to easy scores on the fast break.
Georgetown came to Hawaii and battled a Kansas team to the very end, who is now in the championship game tonight against Duke. This was a game that came down to defense and rebounding, and played at a much slower pace. Then, yesterday the Hoyas' had a practice run against hosting Chaminade in which they ran away with it (rebuilding their confidence).
Memphis loss in this tourney was to Michigan, in a matchup that John Beilein's 1-3-1 defense just killed the memphis tempo but not letting them run up and down the court.
We'll that how i except coach John Thompson 111 to defend the Memphis attack. Of course not with the 1-3-1, but with a more physical defense. Georgetown is very long and its not going to be easy to the Tigers to get to the rim for easy scores, but more importantly the Hoyas' will use more of the shot clock, shortening the game.
I think GTown will out rebound, have more assists and less turnovers then the tigers today. Don't get me wrong Memphis is full of talent and you will see alot of 'highlight type plays' from the barton brothers and such. But i just see this as a bad matchup for this Memphis Tiger team. Plus you have to figure the Hoyas are slightly more rested.
Look for a lower scoring game, and a Hoya victory today.
