Polls have showed Jersey residents will overwhelmingly pass a referendum vote next Tuesday to legalize sports betting in New Jersey.

After that it will be fought in the courts to see if Jersey's states rights will supercede any federal regulation. I love the fact that a hard ass Christie is Jersey's Gov in this spot----I dont think he will take kindly to the feds telling him what his state can and can not do.

In a Rutgers University Poll released---the numbers are 58% in support of sports wagering, and 31% against it.

Jersey is finally getting smart, and they know what sports wagering will do for their race and casino industry.

New jersians have been down this road before. The main diffrence now is adjoining states all have slot and table gambling and are now effecting Atlantic City's revenue
Unfortunately the Feds may never allow it even if NJ does vote for it

A key difference here though is Jersey should have more than a puncher's chance if this hits the Supreme Court.

Most legal guys think it would be next to impossible for the Feds to argue that one state (Nevada) should be allowed to benefit (revenue) while another isn't.

how did delaware avoid the federal rule? they have a 3 team parlay bet you can make there and that's it. but it's a start. New Jersey should just try to get something, anything, sports betting related. I'd be making trips from NYC all the time. time for american bookies to make some cash instead of costa rican people.

In 1992 the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act was put into law-----it was also referred to as the Bradley Act of 1992.

The law effectively outlawed sports wagering in the United States----with certain exceptions. Four states----Nevada, Wyoming, Delaware, and Oregon all had sports wagering in some form---most were in parlay cards.

Delaware had parlay cards at the time----the law also gave states 1 calender year to approve sports betting if they so wanted it, but after that year---it was lights out. Delaware is able to offer parlay cards because they had it before the law was signed---

The PASPA is poorly written and most legal scholars think it will easily get thrown out if it ever hits the courts.

California is thinking of co-signing any petition Jersey may have to fast track this through the courts.
