Why Don't Sportsbooks Offer Reduced Juice on NHL ML's?

hockey moneylines are fairly similar to baseball. most lines range from -100 to -250.

we see many books offering dime lines on baseball moneylines: 5dimes, justbet, dsi, betislands, BetOnline (up to -190 which is the best), betphoenix/betmania, youwager, heritage, ezstreet, rebatewager, intertops.

yet the only book for USA customers that offers dime lines on hockey moneylines is 5dimes. i applaud 5dimes for this. i think books would get a lot more action on hockey if they had a +140 -150 lineset.

i hope this thread stays in players talk and a sportsbook rep sees this thread at at least offers their opinion on the subject.

Probably not enough volume to warrant doing it. Lines also not as sharp in pucks compared to bases.

i could like a hockey game but i would hate having to lay -125 on a game when pinnacle has -115 or -110.

Just a tip Zeta... most reps don't read Players Talk. You WANT your thread to be in S&I. Reps can't be fussed wading through all the other stuff in PT.

I have mirrored your thread in S&I for you.

BetOnline has a dime line for NHL, it just breaks earlier than with bases.

Same reason you don't see dimelines anywhere else, greed (or the need to maintain a profit).

Yes, hockey ml's are similar to bases, but unlike bases there aren't 15 games a day. Teams can have 3 day layoffs in hockey and can have home-away turn arounds of 1k miles back to back nights.

This makes writing the line in hockey tougher, and a few big bets can leave the bookie scrambling to fill the other side of the ledger. 20 cent lines leaves more room for error.

Also, who offered dimelines before matchbook (when it was avail in the US)? -aside from pinny-5D,No one, because there was no reason to. Books learned gamblers liked reduced juice and used that as the bonus in place of cash.

Now the market has thinned out for US players, and there is no need to give a dimeline. BO does for totals, but ML is a different beast..most any NHL total will be 5.5 on avg.

NHL is low volume for US players?

And MLS, Tennis, golf, WNBA are what?

All are offered at most shops, all of which have mabeye 5 percent of the volume of NHL. NHL is big, just not in the NCAA-MLB-NFL range. Hell game to game I'd wager the regular season MLB does 10 percent of a chalky cupcake game for a NCAA school volume wise.

Las Vegas Hilton offers ML dime lines (20 cent totals) and one would imagine they get less action than the majority of these online books. If the Hilton is offering it don't really see an excuse for these online books not to.

If the world allowed free markets to properly regulate the sportsbook industry we would probably have -101 / +100. Everyone thank your governments.

5d offers them, but with them reduced juice IS a bonus.

500 max, 50 max if you take a combo freeplay-reduced juice. 500 is low for pro play, and pros bet the lower volume sports.

Guys laying 500 on a wnba or nhl side generally are a litte sharper than your avg dart tosser..or they don't last long in this game.

    djefferis nailed it.
Maybe 1% - 2% of books make their own lines, the rest just look at cris or pinnacle and play follow the leader.
Some move the juice on money most don't, so they give themselves a little room to make small errors, not move quickly, etc.
The profit on dealing 10cent lines isn't that much to begin with around 2.4%, screw up too many times that drops quickly.
Reason some books break now at -150 in bases is because the higher the "dime line" the less profitable it becomes for the book. So for a sport with less than average volume 10cents is going to be just too thin for books in hockey. I also disagree that offering 10cents would create more action. Most bettors really aren't that concerned with reduced juice. Sure maybe on SBR it's different, but a lot guys just want a big bonus and cheap payouts. They don't mind the extra cents here and there. If that weren't true then only books dealing dime lines to -190 in baseball would get action, and that's just not the case.

offered, but not with dimelines, which is what we're talking about.

of course it is. What book offers dimelines on a variety of sports AND gives bonuses to boot? AFAIK, Pinnacle doesn't give bonuses, although I could be wrong.
