Nothing in there mentions whether he's talking about sports betting or simply casino/poker/horses gambling.

Online Casinos are probably going to be legalized if anything... Article doesn't mention specifics.

Trump is about 5 years too late. The idea of legalized Internet betting has been around for years now. It is a good one. The Feds could ban all wagering outside the U.S. They could set up a Vegas style type wagering, where winnings would be reported to the IRS. Each bettor would also have an easy way to keep track of losing wagers. When tax time rolls around, the bettor can simply write off his losings to an amount equal to his winnings, but not more. That way, the bettor does not get taxed for one big win, after he has lost an equal amount of money, or more. He only pays taxes on his bottom line net profit.

This would also eliminate having bettors jump thru hoops trying to make deposits, and jumping thru hoops on fire to try and collect. It gets rid of those ridiculous fees that some pay to collect THEIR money. It gives people viable options to settle disputes. Internet gaming run in the U.S. can easily be regulated by the Federal Government. Most major casinos are already set up for internet wagering. They just need the green light to start. I back this 100%.

There is a House Committee hearing on Tuesday to start legalizing online poker. However, it's just online poker and not sports betting.

That is the problem. It has to be for ALL sports wagering. Poker is a small part of the entire makeup of online wagering.

There's no good reason for it to be illegal. I doubt it changes anytime soon, though.

It would be nice until it gets to Congress and the Dems would add to the bill that "Anyone hitting over 53% winners MUST pay an additional 20% tax on those winnings to supplement the players who only hit 25% or worse"....'fairness' tax

The Trump activity is not specific so one has to assume that it is casino and or poker "internet betting" that The Donald is talking about.
I hope they stay away from sports betting, in other words, leave it alone.
I'm not too worried though, the ghost of Bobby Kennedy will keep sports betting away from the mainstream just like the ghost of Jack has kept the US from normalized relations with Coober.

funny because he was against it before and thought it would hurt his casinos

Now that usa players can't play and gamble at so many places , he is only for himself to make money

"Currently, millions of Americans engage in online gaming with illegal offshore operators, and do so with no oversight, no regulation or no consumer protections," Griffin said at the time. "It makes sense for the state of New Jersey to regulate this activity, enforce strict standards to ensure games are fair and safe, and in turn be able to collect tax revenue instead of having those dollars and the jobs they support leaving New Jersey and going illegally overseas."

    Amen.

probably just casinos--law makers in America have no brains and no guts. So Trump wouldn't have a shot if he pushed for sports betting. It would be too bold for these losers in power in Washington to actually do both casinos and sports betting. Trump wants the rigged poker garbage where only idiots play and where all players lose. Only Ron Paul and his son would ever be smart enough to allow sports betting. Forget all other members of the 2 party ruling class--they understand nothing.

I really wonder what goes on in the mind of politicians at times. The US will most likely see legal online casinos and poker before they ever have legalised online sportsbetting. Yet online sportsbetting is legal in Australia while online casinos and poker aren't. Doesn't make much sense at all. But it's good to have someone as high profile as Trump at least talking about online gambling even if nothing comes of it... if he can't get some discussion going, then almost no one can.
