gambling is ruining lives of so many young people

we have some that should be in college and working on their future , but instead they are on sbr and in sbr chat.

Some of us olde folk can't be saved but they can

2 guys that go to my home poker game, 21 and 22 years old , both divorced and lost it all the last month with their 1st year of fantasy football and football gambling

Guy down the road killed himself day after 21st birthday after going to vegas and getting caught up in the action. Owing so much for school loans then losing at gambling

For us older folk did you ever use the word buried or all in or beg for pts and cash at 18-22 years old? No, i didnt think so

All you have to do is sit back and read the posts, and observe. You can't beat the house in the long run and people that are young shouldn't be using their money on gambling unless very small amounts.

SBR needs to change it to where nobody can become a member unless 21 years old and show proof of identity.

I can see fat ***** or older people or whoever doing this but anyone that is young, its pretty much inexcusable and perhaps sbr should start offering more help with meetings and ban problem gamblers.
Even a experienced gambler like jj climbing a ladder. My recommendation is to leave sbr and better yourself because it's not going to happen on a gambling forum or chat room

If you like losing your hair, getting fatter, losing money and not becoming a better person , than by all means stay.

All that being said, take jets - 7 and under

They probably killed themselves because they were married at such a young age... Gambling probably didn't have anything to do with it

If you've already married and divorced by 21.....you have bigger problems than gambling

If you 'lost it all' at the age of 21....then you didn't lose very much unless you were a child movie star who made millions from Disney.

That said....skip the MNF game and take Rutgers -1 Friday night

TT: they're here and that means that gambling has already sucked them in. To some young guys, winning is a conquest , but to the older guys, it's a way of life. Too late for all involved. Use good judgment with money management and take the time to handicap the games properly. People say gambling is like drugs. I highly disagree. Drugs kill people and are toxic to the body...not even close

He killed himself because he was a weak-minded coward, not because he lost some paper or got sprung at a young age...

    We all do that...

Ttwarrior, its this kind of WARPED thinking that has taken away so many options that used to be available to U.S. citizens who enjoy gambling online.

Just because there are some people who can't control themselves gambling does NOT mean that gambling should be outlawed.

Alcohol, tobacco, guns, prescription medication/drugs are just a few things that can take lives when they are abused to excess but that doesn't mean that everyone should be prohibited from using them.

Unfortunately, nobody knows what the term "personal responsibility" means anymore as evidenced by the "occupy" protests going on throughout the country.

Disagree with all this BS.....I'm young and have fun with gambling, its not who I am. I've been gambling on sports and other things for a long time and just graduated college and have a good job now. People that get barreled in.....well it's their own fault for getting greedy or pushing it and ultimately not picking winners..... No one ever asked them to gamble in the first place. It's one's freedom and decision to put their hard-earned money on the line for the reward of more money. This kind of thinking really pisses me off

Money management or lack thereof ruins lifes in gambling as well as many other aspects.

Everyone has hobbies. But if you are, lets say a fisherman you do not buy every expensive lure, boat and a fishing condo on the beach unless you can afford it because that will lead to financial ruin. It's the same with gambling. If you like to gamble but money is tight then wager an amount equal to a night out at the movies, maybe you only wager $10 a week or whatever you can sensibly afford. The point is guys bet more than they can afford to lose and yes, that will lead to financial ruin. Scale your gambling bankroll annually to your salary. Limit your gambling entertainment budget to no more than 10% of your take home pay.

If they are married at 21 I'd say religion is their problem, not gambling.

Seriously, who other than religious people get married that young.

gambling sucks.. if people spent 5% of the effort and brain power on studying that they do on trying to handicap and pick winners they would have careers that generated way more than gambling could ever earn them...take it from a guy that quit med school...jets and under u say??...hate laying big points and still trying to keep it under..

I never understood why people bet there life savings, car payments, mortgage etc. Like the woj guy who lost all those betpoints he says he needed to survive. Why the fuk would you gamble money you need to survive. Put some time into going to college and getting a better career for fuks sake, no one here makes a living betting sports, just a bunch of kids trying to gain approval on an internet forum by saying they bet so much.

TT has a great point and very good opening post.

Johns was excellent too. If managed correctly, gambling can be no more costly or dangerous as a night out with friends, or going to a baseball game.

If going out and spending 50$ at the bar is something you can afford, then staying home and betting 50$ on tonight's game is no more deadly or problematic.

I know plenty of people in financial ruin, because their hobbies are also expensive. Its not about gambling as much as it is about personal control.

Exactly, the lie is that you can win at sports gambling. That should be what is targeted here. The reality is, you may be able to win, but chances are YOU WILL NOT win at sports.

That being said, now you have a true dose of reality, how much more likely are you to gamble, or at least to gamble large? I'm not against it either, but i agree with the poster that for the 98% of the people out there, you will make MORE money by actually working, crazy i know!

But do what you want, it's a free country for now.

No need to ban sex and advocate the government to take away even more of American's liberties and freedoms.
What you and the majority of the other sheep in America, who lack critical thinking skills, need to do is stop electing politicians who advocate robbing taxpayers and then giving that money to deadbeat people to have kids. Let social Darwinism flourish.
