    Geno's Takes for October 11 2011

The Bears teased me and by that I don’t mean I teased them up to 12 or I’d be sitting at 3-1-1 this week instead of the vanilla 2-2-1. Still at 67% over the past two week (6-3) so I won’t complain as our buddy Swingin' Johnson had a rough one was well but I would lose juice every week to enjoy his podcast. But week 6 awaits as these topics burn in daddy’s ears…

Thanks to everyone who followed my live tweet of the game last night.
If you didn’t you missed out on realtime jokes like these:
Gruden is drinking Megatron juice?? The way Johnson pads Stafford's stats for him, Stafford should be drinking that every Sunday night. :-)
    and
Tirico just said Stafford prefers the Shotgun. Coincidentally, so do 90% of fans in Detroit.
But if you still haven’t followed me on Twitter @genospicks, just to sweeten the deal I’ll let you in on the 1st tweet of the day today:
26 penalties? There were more flags on the ground in Detroit last night than in NYC after the Puerto Rican day parade. @PTI.
Yeah I added that last one because I know the fine family of networks at ABC will enjoy that one after banning hank Williams Jr. from our MNF ritual for ruffling liberal America’s feathers yet opposite the very telecast on ABC was Chaz Bono dancing around. I’m sure the Bible Belt has isn’t the least bit horrified by “him.” (Not that I was watching him dance to a deliciously elegant ballroom cover of the Rocky Theme… um did I say or think that last line?) In case if you didn’t get my take on the actual Hank Williams controversy in the opening portion of Geno's Picks Week 5 thread this week, you can listen to me argue with my buddy Vilmos about it in my weekly Tuesday morning podcast The Antagonists.

Merrill Hoge is a pompous jerk (see how I didn’t call him a jackass… D’oh!!!)
Barely two months ago when a twitter feud began between the two—in which Tebow, who is all class, took the high road—after Hoge said, among other things, "He is awful as far as accuracy goes and, he's worse moving and running around with the football and throwing than he is from the pocket." Still, after his amazing near comeback against the Chargers on when Trey Wingo asked who he thought should start for the Broncos he answered “it’s a terrible situation that team is in and there is no answer.”
No Merrill, there’s now answer for you and your ego because you can’t say “Orton” and lose what little credibility you have as an analyst and you certainly can’t admit you were wrong and say “Tebow” who—of all the QB’s on Denver’s roster—gives them the best shot at winning. The argument in Denver isn’t about who is the best prototype NFL QB—a discussion for Spring when you can draft or trade to acquire that player and build an offense around him. The question now going into Week 6 is do you want to win or do you want Andrew Luck? The bottom line is the Bronco’s need to find out what they have in Tebow by playing him. Because I will tell you this, all they did by starting Orton for five weeks is ruin his value on the open market. They should have traded him to Miami in the preseason for anything they could have gotten—I think the last offer was as an actual Dolphin from Sea World with a trainer to be named later—because I’m not sure who has less credibility anymore; Orton behind a center or Hoge behind a desk. The next time Merrill opens his mouth they should club him like a SEAL, SEAL his mouth shut, and leave him in an ALLEY. (Some jokes are just for the ESPN viewers).

Thread of the Day aka “That guy hit the bull, he wins a steak!” –Crash Davis
Congrats to EmpireMaker who’s Detroit 24- Chicago 13 Detroit guess won him a free steak! Well actually it’s a 60 gift certificate to Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in the weekly thread. Wow, as if the fine folks at SBRForum.com don’t do enough, they even give away more free meat than Madonna did in the eighties. Of course there’s a catch, you have to take an entire two minutes to create a free account at SBRForum.com . How do more people not do that? You have another week to get on board people, in the meantime; much like our boy EmpireMaker; I’ll give you some time to digest all of this.

    Wildcard Wednesday tomorrow!
