Yes, generally speaking. But it depends which series you are buying and whether you are looking for a laptop or desktop CPU?

intel doesnt warm as quick as amd, AMD would burn your skin if you plan to use laptop wirelessly. Intel is the best out there in terms of video card compatibility and motherboard heat resistant.

Intel makes the fastest processors when you compare their highest end to AMD's processors, but for what most people use their computer for, they won't notice a difference. Just grab yourself an Intel 32nml dual or quad core proc and you'll fly.

One of the best things you can do for a computer, if you want to really notice a speed difference, is grab a SSD and use it as your main OS drive, traditional hard drives with moving heads and platters will be a thing of the past. Everyone I know that has a SSD as their main drive says it's a night and day difference from a regular hard drive.

I'm gonna get one eventually, I just don't feel like moving all of my junk over to a new drive.

The deal below is perfect for you man, $450 and it has everything you would ever need. Best Buy usually sucks for good prices, but every now and then they run a deal like below.

If you're looking for a laptop, this is an awesome deal, saw it on the frontpage of the slickdeals forum I go to, won't last long. $450 for a beast of a laptop, love the 17" screen and dedicated video card.

6GB is not needed for what you want it to do, you'll notice no difference. Trust me, I build and fix computers...the deal I posted a few posts above is perfect. It can even handle games fine, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8RUTrlpEHg&noredirect=1

The deal I posted has pretty much the same specs and it is $450, the only thing yours has above is a bluray drive....if you plan on playing bluray movies on your laptop then I guess pay the extra $200 for it. But only squares buy/rent movies, the sharps know how to torrent/usenet them for free

It's been a while since I used any AMD processors, but they always seemed to run hotter than Intel.
Coach, don't know if you need a laptop right away, but Black Friday is right around the corner and you can usually find great deals that weekend.

For internet browsing/spread sheets/watching video you don't need more then 4GB. If you plan on installing tons of huge system resource hogging software programs then go to 6GB, but for your needs you don't need it. Google this if you don't believe me. I'm just trying to save you money but if you have 6GB burned into your head for the amount of memory you need then by all means spend that extra money that will serve no value to you.

There is a trick to get astraweb for $11 lifetime (or at least until they fix the glitch), not $11 per month mind you....lifetime. PM me if you want to know, I haven't tried it out yet but I got the info from another usenet poster on this forum I go to. I have a free unlimited account from NewsGroupDirect so there is no need for me to try out this payment glitch at Astraweb.
