Next week SBR will open some poker ring tables for novices, beginners and players who are in a slump.

Players are rated by the SBR poker software from 1300 to 2300, new players start at 1500. Only players that have a rating of 1450 or below will be allowed on the tables named "Sanctuary". Of course players rated at 1450 and below can play on any table, they are not restricted to Sanctuary tables. However, those rated above 1450 will not be able to get a seat.

This is for point ring games only, not tournaments.

So if you are a beginner or in a bad slump stop by next week and grab you a seat in the SBR poker Sanctuary table. More details Monday.

If you beat lower rated players it may barely increase your rating. If you beat higher rated players it will increase your rating more. Conversely, if you play very good players and come out on the short end it would have minimal effect on your rating. Kind of sounds like the BCS .

Looks like this will work in favor of the experienced players. Imagine an experienced player bullying the novice player with crappy cards. The novice player will see the higher ranking and keep folding and losing all the pots.

Would like to see how the ranking will work during the game.

Who is actually going to swallow their pride and play on these tables? If everyone can see rankings, it will likely be more discouraging to players who are ranked low than encouraging. If anything, you should have tables with incentives like less rake for players ranked higher, not making those who are novice and have a lower rating feel alienated from the rest of the player pool.

Wow, poker segregation!? Why do weak players need to be protected? I don't get why this is needed. If we see SBR_John constantly at the Sanctuary table raking in the chips we will know why.

conspiracies ARE fun. im usually the first one to jump on a good conspiracy but while acknowledging that distinguishing between players in a solid quantifiable fashion does open the door for "switch-flipping" and targetting groupings- we should probably observe this first and see if it occurs.

while you make a valid point, you are putting the proverbial wagon before the horse carseller. further, im not sure why they would even want to do this ever.
