That's horseshit. It's not hard AT ALL to find a job. It might be the last thing on Earth you'd want to do, but it's a goddamn paycheck. I have a fukking B.A. in Economics and my stock brokers license and I'm fukking cooking/waiting tables at a private beach club right now.

Is it what I want to be doing....no.

Is it a fairly decent paycheck twice a month.....yes

Go into any Dunkin Donuts in this country and tell them you want to work. You'll have a job even without experience.

    Signs of Problem Gambling

Unlike alcohol or other drug abuse where those under the influence may appear intoxicated or "high", problem gamblers usually do not exhibit easily recognizable signs. However, there are signs that may indicate someone is experiencing a gambling problem.
According to the South Oaks Gambling Screen (SOGS), the following are often signs of problem gambling:
    • The person gambles more than they intended
    • Other people are suggesting that the person might have a gambling problem
    • The person is feeling guilty about the way he or she gambles
    • The person wants to stop betting money and feels like they can’t
    • The person gambling is hiding betting slips, lottery tickets, gambling money or other signs of betting
    • There are arguments over how the person gambling is handling money
    • The person gambling is borrowing money and not repaying it
    • The person gambling is losing time from work or school due to betting money or gambling

The American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV), also suggests that signs of problem gambling may include:
    • Preoccupation with gambling (reliving past gambling experiences, planning the next venture or thinking of ways in which to gamble)
    • Needing to gamble with increasing amounts of money in order to achieve the desired excitement
    • Trying to control, cut down or stop gambling unsuccessfully
    • Feeling restless or irritable when attempting to cut down or stop gambling
    • Using gambling as a way to escape problems or bad moods (helplessness, guilt, anxiety, depression)
    • Returning to gamble after losing money gambling
    • Lying to conceal the extent of involvement with gambling
    • Committing illegal acts, such as forgery, fraud, theft or embezzlement to finance gambling.
    • Jeopardizing or losing a significant relationship, job, educational or career opportunity because of gambling.
    • Relying on others to getout ofdebt

We understand the problem. We can help. Call the Helpline at (1-800-GAM-1234).

It doesn't seem like anyone is doubting this, but I'd like to confirm that this is true. ThaWoj explained his situation to me via PM long before he lost the points, when he had no reason to do so. As such, I have no doubt that it is 100% true.

Unfortuantely, I have seen this sort of thing happen many times before. I've seen people pawn a valued position or deposit $50, run it up to $2000 on an incredible series of bets and then lose a little. Suddenly they have to "get it back", and end up losing everything in the effort. ThaWoj's situation was similar - he didn't buy the points, but he did start with nothing a week ago. He got a 200 point freeplay from BTP, hit an 800 point parlay with it, and kept on winning winning winning with it. For once, it looked like dreams really would come true in the SBR casino. Sadly, they did not.

ThaWoj is far from the first person to do this. If you look back at the old top daily winner threads SBR used to publish, you'll find that the vast majority of the people who hit some monster parlay (and/or had a monster casino run) for 20,000 points cashed out nothing or a trivial amount. I feel very very sorry for the ThaWoj and everyone else who's blown huge stack of points and/or money like this. I've done it myself in the past, and still fall victim to chasing losses from time to time in poker. The urge to get "losses" back is indeed very hard to resist.

ThaWoj, when I heard about your winnings, I told you it was a Godsend. Perhaps it still can be. At best the winnings would have delayed the inevitable for a couple months. However, it's quite likely you would have been right back in a casino/sportsbook the first chance you got. Maybe you can use this experience to give up on gambling once and for all and really turn your life around. It won't be easy, but if you really want to "win" you have to quit playing. The casino never loses in the long run and never will.

    Good luck,
    Thaddeus

I don't even feel a little bit bad for you. Sorry. You lost a couple hundred, so you spend 40000 trying to get it back. That was stupid.

thaddeus i understand where you're coming from but i don't think quitting gambling is winning or a "better life".

even people with a gambling problem/drinking problem can learn to control it and imho have a much more fun life than the stooges that don't do anything except work around the house, watch tv, etc

i'd rather be broke at a casino enjoying a nice meal with my points than have a pocketful of money and be sitting at home eating a tv dinner. keep in mind many gamblers are notoriously cheap and would only eat or wear anything nice if it is with comps.

thank you to everyone who offered kind words.
thanks to anyone who sent points, you didn't have to.
to anyone else saying negative things, im ok with that, i expected it (except for the guy that said goodbye and hope you dont wake up tomorrow.)
what can i say i have a problem. and as hard as it is to believe, i really was counting on the points/store items. fair enough to say that just 3 days ago I didn't have nearly that much, but at the same time, as Thaddeus put it, it was a Godsend to be able to help me to survive until figuring something else out.
And I'm not sure at 28 I would refer to myself as "this kid" as others are doing, but fair enough.

i lost my job 2 months ago. i live in rural louisiana where it is not easy to find one. i am trying to finish a business degree at the same time. i wasn't sure what i was going to do or how i was going to make it before i got all these points but it was going to help for the time being. And time is my biggest enemy. If I found a job tomorrow it wouldn't be enough time. I don't care as much about being homeless (been twice before) as I do about the car getting repo'd. I have exactly 1 week for that to come up with $300 for October. I can hold off the $747 rent with excuses for a week or two until kicked out.

i'd have to wait 3 more years for my bankruptcy to be off my record. military won't take anyone with a bankruptcy. i got removed from the air force at 23 because my recruiter forged my record saying i didn't have a bankruptcy and then someone found out that I did.

    ThaWoj,

Write a book to the tune of Justin's "Conquering Risk: Attacking Vegas" but name it ThaWoj "Losing My Ass: How I Gave SBR Back 6 Ipad's". Then make a deal with SBR_John to sell it at the store. People will buy it with points and you get a percentage cut with points from sales. That's how you make back the points you lost. If you sign the first copy for me with a personalized note I will pay double the price for this collector's item.
