Well Kershaw just back pocketed the Cy

Put my rep on the line with this guy and he delivered in facile fashion. dude was the best pitcher since the start of week one. No more arguments that can be produced knocking this guy. Doc getting touched up sure helped.

Just a thread to celebrate his astounding season and checking in with all the haters. Boy, hes going to get paid this offseason!

Big Kershaw fan from the begining.

Can't think of a better guy to to build your pitching franchise around.

Some scary numbers for his age.

Kershaw last start is schedule to be against the Padres but I think they will reserve him against the Diamonbacks because if we all remember, he does have some unfinished business with Parra and the dBacks. But who knows if Kershaw just wants to seal the Cy Young award and get it easy from the Padres?

Why do people still Kennedy deserves to be in the CY young discussion?

    Here's two pitchers

    IP(/start) SO(/9) BB(/9) ERA/FIP CG/SHO Gw/ 4+R&2-R
    216 (6.8) 194(8.1) 53 (2.2) 2.88/3.22 1/1 7/20
    206 (6.9) 183(8.1) 41 (1.8) 2.80/2.94 3/0 5/20

Why is one of these guys a Candidate and not the other?

5 MAN RACE IN THE NL. (not 2)
All of these guys are worth a vote. It is a great race. But no one has pocketed the Cy Young.
They will all take votes from one another. Tightest race in a while.

thinking it over, not so sure kershaw deserves it, his stats are inflated by getting to throw some many games against the giants, one of the worst offenses i've ever seen in the last 50 years...i know he is going to win it, but not sure it's the right call...lee's numbers are also very good and he doesn't pitch in a pitcher's park like kershaw does

yes, 3 runs on 11 hits is getting bombed, when other candidates are giving up just 1 run.

lee, halladay & hamels took themselves out of the race with their recent performances.

kershaw and kennedy both deserve it. but kennedy should win cause he pitched in a launching pad in arizona and faced the phillies while kershaw did not.

but if the voting were held today, kershaw would win.

What's that have to do with winning a Cy Young?

King won it last year, his M team didn't even sniff the playoffs.
Greinke won in 2009, how'd that KC team do in October?
Cliff Lee in 2008 with the Indians.

    The list is endless.

    Pedro, Steve Carlton.................................

That, and while you can make that argument for an MVP candidate (which I don't necessarily agree with) the Cy Young is strictly for the best pitcher. That being said, I think it's more impressive for a pitcher to put up the numbers Kershaw has put up on a crappy team.

Clayton Kershaw definitely deserves this award and basically has it wrapped up. Kennedy is not even in the picture, as his personal numbers come in behind not only kershaw, but also lee and doc. A normal year, yes he should be in the discussion with his numbers... but unfortunately for him, not this year.

To say it is more impressive that kershaw is doing it on a crappy team is completely off though. Cliff lee has given up: 2, 1, and 1 runs in his last three games. He got two no decisions and a loss in these three games... This is bc he plays on a good team that already clinched the playoffs, and so no longer cared about scoring runs and winning. So actually the complete opposite is true, Kershaw has benefitted this year by playing for a bad team.

Cliffs runs given up in his last six no decisions and losses: 2, 1, 1, 5, 2 1. As you can see, 5 of those should easily be wins. He has given up 3 runs or less 10 times this season and has not gotten wins. Doc has also had 10 times of three runs or less and not gotten wins. Kershaw is sitting at 5 times. So this is 5 wins extra that Kershaw has gotten bc of the team he plays for.

Dont get me wrong, Kershaw definitely deserves the award (despite playing in his weak division), as all his other numbers also back up his win totals. But its a shame that it is no longer a race bc Doc and Lee have comparable numbers, other then win totals bc of the team they play on. That is part of the game though, and it is what it is.

Kershaw is a stud though, and deserves the award... so congrats to all Kershaw fans.

.....Kennedy is not even close though...
