I gamble for the entertainment value. Not a professional as I play too many games and don't bet a lot each game. This year I am making betting against the public a priority. I easily get sucked into sucker bets. For example, this weekend Michigan getting 5 1/2 points is extremely tempting to me, but I should know better than to fall into this trap.

Actually taking MSU -5.5 is a huge sucker bet or what i would call a major trap game. Take it by me, i live and die by MSU football/basketball and I would not be suprised if they lost to Michigan. I almost hate to say it, but if you are going to bet this game, either bet scUM +5.5 (wait it should get up to +6), the scUM money line, or just lay off it. Absolutely no value in MSU this weekend!

Nevertheless, Go State and pound them!

Mam if there is a team Mish matches up poorly against its Mish St. Mish St will have to give this one away to lose it although I agree with the value angle. MSU backers are getting the worse of the line but even so they should frustrate the wolverines and the points should follow.

    Gamblers biggest flaw = Hope.
When you hear yourself saying "Gee, I hope their defence can play well enough" or I hope this or that doesn't happen. If you hear yourself saying things like that, hope or similar such words = don't bet. Keep hold of your money, go and have a beer and watch the game. I know this to be true because every now and again i catch myself at it and just about every time i get my hairy little butt kicked. Be smart, play the percentages or no play at all. By all means if you honestly believe you have a play, trust your judgement and go for it, but don't get in so deep that you'll spend the next five years regretting it. Remember their is no law that says you have to bet every single game. Be happy and thankful for your wins, learn from your losses and enjoy yourself.

Since 95% of the gamblers do lose it makes it easy to spot a lot of guys that are losing. A good tell is when guys consistently brag about winning, they are really losing. Using this tell I've come up with 4 guys that I know are losing,

    Terris
    Taco
    Senator
    Natrass

As long as these guys can keep it under control they will be all right. It's when they start tapping into the rent/mortgage money that it becomes a problem.

Can you direct me to where I "consistently brag about winning"? My money is my own concern - I've got no inclination to reveal to anyone else how much I'm making or not making as the case may be.

And BTW, you missed jjgold off that list.

taco- Don't take it as an insult. You have lots of company since 95% are losers. I've been a forum poster for many years and I can easily spot the frauds.

How do I consistently brag about winning? I just said that you can believe my percentages or not, but they are what they are and I'm not a liar. I'm not a pro and I have a full time job. This is just a very serious hobby for me. I'm a very good football bettor and that's all I do right now so that's all my time is spent on. I don't kid myself and try to bet basketball, tennis, soccer, or hockey, sports in which I have very little, if any, handicapping knowledge. I am a good baseball bettor, but I typically only bet it during the playoffs. Like I said, I plan to start betting the ponies as well. For you to say that I brag about winning and that I really am losing is stupid. Tacomax said it best: My money is my own concern.

To be honest, I could care less what you think, Raiders. I answered a thread honestly and since I'm telling the truth and making money that immediately makes me a loser because nobody can win in the long run right? Whatever...

So I've not been "consistently brag about winning" then.

I've been a forum poster for many years and when an individual puts it upon himself to put down other posters for no reason, they're compensating for something missing in their lives aka small dick syndrome.

What is so weird about those numbers, Raiders? My highest season of NCAA football has been 62%. My typical average is usually 58%. My highest NFL season has been 58%. My typical average is 56% or 57%. Typical football season for both college and pro is 57%. After the juice, I get around a 5% rate of return each season. Why is that so impossible to believe?

I don't play teasers, parlays, or prop bets. I don't bet totals, only sides. I never lay more than 10 points in the NFL and no more than 21 in the NCAA. As a matter of fact, I don't even consider the game if the opening line is higher than that. I've got 15 different sportsbook accounts to get the best line and juice. I bet the same amount on each game every week. I'm a grinder. When I think of sportsbetting, I compare it to the stock market, not the lottery. I'm in it for the long haul and I'm smart, patient, and serious about my betting. I would imagine that anyone with those three things should be a winner over the long haul. When you have a plan, bet smart, and only bet one sport, its stupid to think you can't win over the long haul.

Understatement of the year! Thankfully, not many phone calls though.

Raiders, believe me or not, I don't care. I have no reason to defend myself or my record and, like most people on this board, I really don't care what you think.

Raiders, you have no idea what I hit on a good week or a bad week. You don't know what plays I'm making and you don't know me. Like I said Raiders, I've got nothing against you and I really don't care what you think or say. I've never said I was a pro (far from it), I just said that so far in my young betting career, I have done pretty good.

Right now, I'm having an off year. I'm doing alright in college but not so great in the NFL. I started out great in Weeks 1 and 2, but week 3 really hurt me. I'm just under 50% combined so far this year so I'm down juice. Think what you want but I'm done with this discussion.

If you could remember correctly, I was saying that I had a positive lifetime balance at Bodog but, when I asked customer services, they still allowed me a re-load bonus. Never quoted a figure - could be up by $1 or $100,000 - just clarifying a point about the re-load bonus. Never mentioned about depositing every two weeks either.

Nice try. Well a pretty poor one, actually. You'll have to try better than that, raiders.

I didn't say that. I said I ask them when they have an offer on if I'm eligible. I took an offer last NFL season, March this year and also at the start of this NFL season. I was not bragging, simply proving that Bodog can give bonuses if you have a positive overall record - if you ask them.

But what has this to do with me "consistently brag about winning"?

Just because I might be up at one book, I could be down at another 15. I don't divulge any of my financial transactions. I've not got anything in my life I need to compensate for. Unlike you, it seems.

So a "professional gambler" who was bankrupt 10 years ago, over $200K in debt earlier in the year and forced to beg on internet forums for money to pay the bills is classed as a winner.

Cool. Hope I never make it to your winners list.

sergfro- That's a good point. I think that Dozer would be in the break even category. You may very well be in the winners category but I haven't seen enough of your posts yet but I'm leaning winner. I've just pointed out the obvious winners and losers. Break even is much tougher to decide.

I was thinking to my self earlier....that one guy who said he uses 15 sportsbooks I think it was Senator.......and gets a whole lot of mail and email from them (bonuses etc) Ive realized (maybe its just me) but the books that Ive had a lifetime winnings at have never sent me any mail or email....but the ones I have a lifetime losses I get a crap load of bonuses and advertisements sent to my home and email......so if you put this together.....Not to put you on the spot Senator you said you get a lot of junk mail and home mail....making me believe you lose in most books...but then again what do I know....Maybe you're right and do Win...thats what we are all here for right

    Best of luck to ya.
