Larry Fitzgerald getting a sick contract.

The Arizona Cardinals will sign wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald to a record eight-year, $120 million deal, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The deal includes close to $50 million guaranteed.

Fitzgerald, 27, would be under contract through 2018. The six additional years after 2012 would be worth $17 million each.

The $15-million average would tie him with the Raiders' Richard Seymour for the fifth-highest average among all players. The top four players are all quarterbacks. Fitzerald had three straight seasons of at least 10 touchdown receptions before scoring six times last season on 90 catches for 1,137 yards.

The five-time Pro Bowler has scored at least six touchdowns in all of his seven NFL seasons.

Smart move by Cards. Fitz mentioned that it took Warner two or three years to trust him enough to just throw the ball up even when he was covered. Kolb's already doing that. Remember those incredible catches in their playoff run to the Superbowl? More on the way. 11 can't be stopped. Pity that Boldin left though. Fitz was willing at the time to earn less so Boldin could earn more. But Boldin had too much ego.

I'm kind of shocked at the report of the money he is being given. That's going to f up the pay scale in a big way for a lot of teams. QBs making that kind of money makes sense. WRs? Hell no. The real terms of the deal aren't known, but that is one monsterous contract. If he's getting that much cash, I can only imagine how much Andre Johnson will get.

I'm shocked by it too. Their defense was near the bottom last year, they traded away Rodgers-Cromartie and they use a ton of their money on a WR. I know it's spread out over 8 years, but still....

He deserves it. But they need to get a QB to throw him the ball.

relatively for NFL money that s too big for a WR. However, when relating to baseball contracts that is money well deserved. QB is the premium position in NFL. Nobody should get paid more than a great NFL QB.

now every wide receiver that thinks they are in fitz's class (which is definitely andre johnson, roddy white, calvin johnson, upcoming hakeem nicks, maybe desean jackson, will be griping for bigger dollars and comparing to this contract.

the reason baseball players make so much is they play for so long. they are involved in baseball activities for 9 months if they are in the playoffs w/6 of those being full-time 6 games a week playing, which equals $$$$$ for owners and even more $$ for those teams w/individual tv contracts, not shared like in the nfl w/a couple networks. football (obviously is more physical and for that reason is only played once a week, but it's 16 games, and when you break down the money it's not even close compared to 162.

Too much for a WR, but ARI needed to keep the face of the franchise.

The rookie wage scale made this contract possible.

They said funds would be left over to sign vets, and the Cards decided to give it all to Fitz. IMO that kind of money should be reserved for QBs, LT, and DE. But Fitz is an exception.

As a Niners fan love the contract. Way 2 big for a WR position. With the contract with kolb+fitz that takes $ off the table for positions that they actually need.

Bidwell is one of the worst owners in the NFL. He needed to keep his stud WR at almost any cost. Fitz is a great player, good guy who is probaly the best WR in the game. I remember the days when Cardinal stadium would be half full almost every game. Losing Fitz would have been a huge PR nightmare for Bidwell.
