The Crisis: Dolphins reportedly considering adding Favre

With the threat of a continued reign of Brett Favre(notes), Shutdown Corner turns to Thomas Paine and his famous pamphlet "The Crisis," written in 1776 to encourage Americans to rise up against the tyrannical British rule. (Note: These are the quotes below that are italicized)

"These are the times that try men's souls."
Miami Dolphins coach Tony Sparano won't rule out the possibility of bringing in Brett Favre to compete for the team's starting quarterback job with Chad Henne(notes) and Matt Moore(notes).
"We did not make a proper use of last winter, neither could we, while we were in a dependent state."
This despite the fact that Favre was dreadful during the latter part of last year in Minnesota. Henne's 6-8 record on 15 touchdowns and 19 interceptions in 2010 were superior to Favre's 5-8 record on 11 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. THE NUMBERS DO NOT LIE!
"However, the fault, if it were one, was all our own; we have none to blame but ourselves."
Dolphins fans booed Chad Henne one day and the next day it comes out that Sparano is looking toward the 41-year-old Favre. You did this to yourselves, Miami.
"But no great deal is lost yet."

    Per PFT

Publicly, Dolphins coach Tony Sparano wouldn’t rule out the possibility of signing Brett Favre.
    Privately, the team will.
Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports, citing an unnamed “highly placed team source” (Fergie?) reports that the Dolphins aren’t interested.
So why didn’t Sparano say so? Salguero says it’s part of the team’s habit of giving the media nothing.
Except, of course, when giving the media nothing creates an unexpected storm of something other than snow and then the team needs to leak its true intentions to the media anonymously.
Wouldn’t life be a lot easier if these ultra-secretive coaches trusted themselves to know the difference between the things they should say without giving up any strategic advantage, and the things they shouldn’t?

favre would turn them into an instant contender. they got all the necessary pieces except qb.

and last season wasnt favres fault. his best wr was out first 10 games, harvin was battling concussions, o line was a mess, defense riddled with injuries.....

henne sucks period. he personally kept the fins from making playoffs with his awful throws.

i haven't given up on him yet.

He looked good at times last year, especially the first 6 games. He has talent but whether he can mentally adapt ?

Make plays and less mistakes. If he can do that, along with a new offensive coordinator, they can surprise people. They are deep, great young fast defense and one of the best offensive lines in football, Marshall, Bush and winning the AFC east isn't out of the question.

This would be one of the biggest bonehead moves of all time, if they do it.

I hope not. Love my dolphins but not a huge fan of Favre. Not giving up on Henne but that is probably due to being a homer as opposed to Henne actually showing anything

I would take Favre over Henne.

Guy might be old but still has heart of a champion and can still sling it!

I won't consider Favre officially retired until the final whistle of the Super Bowl is blown.

No way this happens. Favre filed his papers. He looked like an 80 year old man out there last year. Plus his streak is broken.

I'm so sick of Brett Favre. How many comebacks can he make? It's too much already. He's an attention whore. I'd rather have a young QB than Favre anyday

I'm tired of all the Favre talk every year! That said, I'd like to see it happen. Henne's no good and Sparano is a lame duck coach. It's well worth the gamble. Since there's a number of mediocre starting Qb's in the NFL, this Favre talk will keep happening.

all Brett has to do is say he wants to play, then the offers will come.
    it's totally up to him.
