    i'm getting alot better with discipline but the way they hype up those games on tv is so good. your best bet is to not turn on the tele if you're one of those like me...

    I think my reply would fall under the "maturing as a gambler thread" but I used to be like this....had to bet because its on tv....but now I'm way more disciplined....I lay off games I used to just bet on for the thrill....and since my amounts tend to be high...the logic of betting on a game because it was on tv was the worst reasoning to bet on a game in the world...but when that logic bites you one to many times...you can't help but learn to a degree.

    not at all. I don't watch baseball, tennis, golf, soccer, WNBA and some basketball. Yet I bet them all. I don't bet because it's on TV.

    The way the question is asked, there is kind of a negative connotation attached to it. Personally I don't, but I don't see anything wrong with betting on the TV games, provided one does the requisite research.

    This is something where part of me actually prefers that the game either not be on TV, or be a "2nd tier TV game", such as on ESPN Game Plan or CBS College Sports (talking college football only here of course). If it's not a mainstream game, the edge tends to be bigger.

    With that being said, even when the weeknight college games are on, I am usually busy researching the other games for the weekend so I don't fall into the trap of betting without an edge. I'll just have the game on while I do my work and if I see something along the way, I'll get involved in the 2nd half or in game.
