Mets went from aquiring every latin player to dumping every latin player.

Gone from last year....Oliver Perez, Luis Castillo, Francisco Rodriguez, Carlos Beltran. They all of course needed to go, but I think it's funny Minaya tried to make the Mets an all Latin team and Alderson is going the other way. He's not bringing in any Latin guys.

Minaya will go down in history as of the one the worst GM's in history.
He didn't even hide the fact that race played a big part in his signings.

Last I checked there were NO LATIN players in the NFL. No Greek players therefore not latin/hispanic/spanish... Spanish speakers is the best we can describe them at. Us Spanish speakers are the only race where you cant say we is a certain thing or an other.

Remember this gem when he was with the Expos. What an awful trade, what an awful GM:

7/28/02: Acquired RHP Bartolo Colon and minor league RHP Tim Drew from Cleveland in exchange for 1B Lee Stevens, minor league SS Brandon Phillips, minor league LHP Cliff Lee and minor league OF Grady Sizemore. Even with the future of the franchise in question and a desire to win now, this was just too much to give up for Colon. You have to give this one to Mark Shapiro.

In all fairness, he did it because they thought the Expos were getting absorbed by the rest of the league. He figured, why not?

Still hurts your eyes though, doesn't it?

Braves have the best GM. Just the right mix of Latinos and American players.

I might go with Tampa's GM. They have a loaded farm system now and they're still a decent team.

    Matt Garza.

Like Jermaine Dye for Keith Lockhart and Michael Tucker.
    Or
Ryan Klesko, Bret Boone to the San Diego Padres for Reggie Sanders, Wally Joyner.
    Or
Kevin Millwood to the Philadelphia Phillies for Johnny Estrada
    Or
Adam Wainwright, Jason Marquis to the St. Lous Cardinals for J.D. Drew and Eli Marrero.
    Or
Elvis Andrus, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Neftali Feliz, Matt Harrison to the Texas Rangers for Mark Teixeira

Affirmative action doesn't make hitting a small ball with a wooden object any easier

But I still say we need more of my guys represented other than Ryan Braun and Youkilis for some Hebrew Hammers

The only bad trade in the Texeira deal was Andrus. But at that point we had Escobar and he wasn't going to play. Salta. wasn't going to play because of McCann. And Braves have many arms. How is Venters and Kimbrel are going to play if we kept Feliz? Braves always have the best drafts and the farm system is superb to other teams where we can ship our players to wherever we want because there are better players in the system.

Brave front office are masters at getting rid of pitchers right after their prime.

I'm able to closely follow the 'big Braves' and the Mississippi Braves goings on pretty close. Back and forth between ATL and Jackson alot and get some perks for the minor league games due to relationships with Trustmark Bank. It's always solid but outside of pitching it's getting a little shaky in AA. So many have been plucked recently that it's harder for the development to keep pace. But hoping to get that turned around soon

The bad thing about Minaya was he bid against himself. Nobody else wanted Castillo or Perez, so instead of giving them a one year deal, he gives them both multi year contracts.

    - Resigned Kris Benson to a three year deal before 2005 season. In Minaya’s defense he was pretty handcuffed with this move. Duquette traded away Ty Wigginton and 2 other prospects to Pittsburgh for Benson a few months earlier, so he almost had to re-sign him. Still, Benson went just 14-12 with a 4.23 ERA in a Mets uniform before being traded away.

    - Signed 48-year old Julio Franco to a 2 year deal worth 2.5 million dollars. After a decent 2006, Franco was clearly done and had an atrocious 2007 before being released.

    - Traded promising righty Brian Bannister to Kansas City for relief pitcher Ambiorix Burgos during 2006 season. Bannister is still with the Royals, and has won 35 games for them. Burgos appeared in just 17 games with the Mets in 2007. Since then he has been in trouble with the law for multiple felonies, including assault, hit and run, kidnapping, and attempted murder.

    - Signed Scott Schoeneweis to a 3 year deal worth 10.8 million dollars. Schoeneweis struggled with the Mets, going 2-8 in 2 seasons before being traded to Arizona.

    - Signed Luis Castillo to a 4 year deal worth 25 million dollars after 2007 season. Castillo has been brutal through the first 3 years of the deal. The lowlight of his tenure was dropping a routine pop up that would have won a Subway Series game. The Yankees ended up winning the game on the play. I was in attendance at Yankee Stadium, and have still not recovered from the nightmare.

    - Signed Oliver Perez to a 3 year deal worth 36 million dollars after 2008 season. Perez was terrible in the first year of the deal, going 3-4 with a 6.82 ERA. He was even worse in 2010, going 0-5 with a 6.80 ERA before being pulled from the rotation. Perez refused to go to the minors for a rehab assignment on multiple occasions, forcing the team to carry him in the bullpen. He currently has one year remaining on his deal. This signing will most likely go down as Minaya’s worst, and may have ultimately doomed his tenure as GM.

    - Acquired reliever JJ Putz from Seattle in a three team trade. Putz was supposed to be a top flight set up man for the Mets in 2009, while backing up Francisco Rodriguez in the closer role. Instead, he got off to a terrible start, going 1-4 with a 5.22 ERA before being shut down for the season with an elbow injury. He never pitched for the Mets again.

    - Traded Heath Bell to San Diego after 2006 season for Jon Adkins and Ben Johnson. Since the trade Bell has become one of the top closers in baseball, recording 89 saves over the past two years. Adkins has totaled just 4 2/3 innings pitched since the deal, and Ben Johnson has had only 27 at-bats.

Worse than I remembered. Final straw with Benson was when his wife went to a kids Christmas party dressed like she was walking the Minnesota Strip.
