    Bodog 2012

Bodog just received their UK license which is a very big deal for them and very expensive. They also just bought advertising on an English Premier team....also a very big investment. Bodog wants to be a global brand and get more deals done.

It's very difficult for Bodog to be under attack in the US and still be on the front of Lionel Messi's jersey. There will be a new url but will be the same software, CS, mgt....Think Bookmaker and the CRIS brand.

Bill, straight up, I have 20 k tied up offshore. Should I take it all out in light of recent events? Also, I applied for Pro status and never heard anything. Did I do something wrong? Thanks

The only thing from having all those slow pays be no pays was they wanted to protect their name for overseas and future potential. With the name brand gone this becomes BetUs #2 a joke book with no real stake in doing things right only looking for big time losers with no commitment to player balances or good service.

Noone I ever knew that played at bodog did so because it was so great or exceptional, they played there only because it was bodog and they felt if their funds were safe anywhere it would be there. Now with that sense of security gone nothing remains.

No, I was on chat with them and they confirmed that it will just be changing brand names. But U.S. Bettors should have no problems...I contacted them because I had some Future Bets tied up with them and wanted them cancelled since I thought they were not allowing U.S. players anymore.

heres a fukkin hint...bodog didn't waste millions of advertising dollars over years and fight for their domain name to try to build a brand to willingly change their name at this time.

    give me a fukkin break.

I guess I don't understand. Surely if they want to be a global brand, and to be well-respected by licensing authorities (UK, First Cagayan), they'll be pressure on them to close their US-facing arm? Why would changing the name ease that pressure?

Bodog got out of the US in '06. When they did, Mohawk approached them about licensing their name to use for their sportsbook and that's what's been going on since then. Basically Bodog's a known name and Mohawk paid for the privilege of using it but when the deal expires at the end of the year, Bodog's not going to renew. It's almost like when Subway franchisees pay Subway to use the name. The franchisee still owns the shop and operates it, but they get the name brand recognition and loyalty of Subway customers.

Yes but Subway is still responsible to some extent minor or major for the actions of the franchise, as was bodog here. now this becomes a mckey mouse outfit with no one backing it with the funds or recognition of Bodog.

Cheers Shari. I hadn't realised that. So who owns each franchise? It seems like the main reason people played there - funds being safe - wasn't necessarily true then, unless people knew for sure that each franchise had a lot of $$.

When Dozer's talking about a big move for Bodog, doesn't that just mean the Bodog UK franchise? Or is the UK one still owned by the original owners of the brand?

The sportsbook that North Americans have been playing at is owned by the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group, operating on the Canadian Indian reservation of Kahnawake, Quebec. Here's their website if you want to check them out http://www.morrismohawk.ca/en

The UK book is owned by Bodog.

I'm probably the worst one to ask because I would've recommended 5Dimes and you said no 5Dimes. I wouldn't want to give you my opinion on a book that I'm not currently playing at and the ones I am aren't taking US customers unfortunately.

According to that article, the Bodog name will be gone out of the US at the end of 2011. The Bodog company has been gone from the US for 5 years. But the same book will still exist once the Bodog name comes down; you'll still be dealing with the same CS reps, the same company will be accepting our deposits and paying out, etc... Nothing will have changed other than it won't be called Bodog any more. I'm actually starting to think the way this article was written has done more harm than good because if it had just been explained in a bit simpler terms maybe, I don't think it would've been seen as a big deal. Bottom line: If on January 1st you still want to play at the book you think of as called Bodog today, then you can and nothing will have changed. You'll just be going to a different url to do so.
