It seems like a lot of people like the old vegas and to hang out there, any specific reasons?

ANY TOURIST TRAPS TO WATCH OUT FOR?

Since you are staying at Ballys go out the sportsbook entrance and walk down Flamingo one day. The Westin is across the street and has real low limits for happy hour in late afternoon. It is small but nice and clean and virtually smoke free and has the closest Starbucks. Ellis Island is dumpy but has low limits, good micro brew beers, a decent restaurant with good specials and you get a match play coupon if you eat there. Tuscany is behind it on Flamingo and will have low limits and always is quiet and nice. Another block down is Terribles and it is a very entertaining/interesting place with its sticky carpet, smoke, and locals. They do have flatscreens above the tables so you can watch games while playing. A block south of there is the Hard Rock. There are some good restaurants back there too. Battistas, Yolies Brazilian, Ruth Cris, Mortons, McCormick and Schmicks, Hamada, Cozymel, Ghandi, Hofbrauhaus near Hard Rock, Pink Taco in the Hard Rock, etc.

Downtown is a good time. It's cheaper than the strip. You can ride the Duece bus for $6-7 for 24 hours that runs the entire strip and to downtown. If you have a group might as well take a taxi down there though. Some interesting things can be seen just east of Fremont too. Stroll down to the Cortez, the Western, stop in at the Atomic for a can of beer, etc. On the other end of Fremont the Main St Station has a good microwbrewery and good cheap buffet. 4Queens has a Chicago Brewery upstairs at the corner of the casino with good beers and deep dish pizza and Binion's lunch counter still serves up a good burger and bowl of beans.

Really the Grand Lux? don't get me wrong its a good spot.. but i mean its a chain.. u can go to one anywhere.. if you are in the Venetian or Palazzo and you don't Visit Bouchon.. probably one of the greatest places to eat in the country.. i feel bad for you... when in vegas i eat there everyday ..

For sports betting, the best place to watch a game is the Palazzo. It's so much more comfortable than other books that you can say with close to 100% accuracy anyone who claims another book is the best for sweating games has almost certainly never been to the Palazzo book. For betting the game, the Cantor owned books (Trop, M, Cosmo, Hard Rock), Hilton, and Wynn are the best in the strip area.

The Bally's poker room is smoky, has a high rake, and the staff sucked when I last played there a few years ago. It will do for 1/2NL, but for bigger games, more table selection, and a nicer atmosphere head to Wynn or Venetian.

For free slot play iirc deals are being run currently at Trop, TI, Cosmo, and Casino Royale. If you sign up for a Harrah's players card you'll get free show tickets to see Mac King.
Palazzo sports book is awesome.. so is the bellagio.. the hilton book is awesome but usually packed.. Ceasars book is big and comfy ... Venetian book is a dump but at least u can get your action in ..

Venetian has some of the best poker tourney on the strip if that is your thing...

if you are looking for 5 dollar tables.. Old VEgas, Circus Circus, Slots of Fun , Casino Royal, Hooters, Riveria, sure there are more...

if you have any money and actually care about the food you eat.. i suggest you eat at

Craftsteak, Bouchon, Tao, SeaBlue, RedSquare, Dos Caminos, Social House

    enjoy vegas man ..

Vegas = gambling, booze, hookers and drugs.

    Other than that.......

Depends on what you are after. There are a ton of shows, comics, etc (don't pay full price) or maybe a big concert at the Hard Rock or House of Blues. You can take tours or rent a car and go to Red Rock Canyon, Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, whorehouses. There is a zip line on Fremont St now and one in Boulder City in the mountains (look up bcflightlines). There is shopping in most newer casinos, Miracle Mile in Planet Hollywood, Forum Shops at Ceasers, Fashion Show Mall beside Treasure Island, and outlet malls at each end of the strip and all kinds of tourist traps like Nascar Cafe, Harley Davidson Cafe, M&M's store and crap like that.

The Prime Rib Loft @ The Orleans is one the wife and I always hit. 2 prime ribs, bottle of wine for $100 (includes tip).

I love Green Valley Ranch & Red Rock Resort. Unless you have a car, it's not cheap getting to either one via cab. $40-$50 from the strip.

Something we always do for a "break" from the ding-ding-ding of slots is catch a comedy show. Either Brad Garrett Comedy Club @ Tropicana or Improv @ Harrahs.

WHEREVER YOU GAMBLE, GET A REWARDS CARD. My wife and I aren't big gamblers but we never have to pay for a room. The rewards add up.

    Have fun!

transportation in Vegas is the big thing either have a rental car or take the double deuce bus, it's something like $7 for a 24 hour pass. you'll go broke if you use cabs...they nailed us something like $40 from MGM down to Freemont.
