    Computer Connection Question

If my employer pays for cable internet access for work, can I get a router that I can use the connection for my home PC or will it get reported to the company what internet sites I visit if they request that info?

    Your question doesn't make sense.

Does your employer currently have a WiFi signal or are they hard wired?

Are you within WiFi distance of your employer?

Is your employer paying for your home internet access for a work at home position?

Are you taking your home laptop PC to work and jumping on their internet access?

a router will only work within about 100-500 feet. so most likely no.

It probably doesn't. It is hard wired now in my wife's lap top, which she works from. Would getting a router let me use the cable connection without her getting in trouble if I am checking sites such as this out?

So it word work as our house isn't as long as a football field. To dumb it up, if my wife was to be checking out girl on goat porn from this cable connection, the employer ran an IT report and saw it, this wouldn't be liked from the employer. If I got a router, hooked it up would I be able to use the connection for my pc and access whatever sites i want without the employer getting this info?

Got it your original question wasn't clear so i thought you were referring to connecting to your work connection from afar away.

In regards to your question it depends if they purchased your wife a individual isp( like there paying for a comcast internet connection), or if they have ur wife connected remotely to their network. If it is the latter at any time they can look up internet history coming from that ip address. But i dont they'd really have a reason too.

So all in all i dont think it wud be a issue.

Do you seriously not have a internet connection? ATT has 2 MB for 9.99 a month. Cmon guy get on it.

Still doesn't make sense...is it a wireless card? What does hard wired mean? Lol internet has to generate from somewhere

And if it's a wireless card then no they'd need the computer you're surfing from to know what you're doing because they aren't a network admin for that network

They are paying for the Comcast cable connection. My wife has to access the employer's network remotely using a VPN card.

Then youd have no problem getting a router and using the connection. The employer would'nt be able to see what your doing.

If your employer is paying for the comcast line, and your wife has to use VPN, then no they cannot look at your history. The ISP still can, so if the employer wants to they could request this information from Comcast.

If you login to the VPN and then browse, they can see your requests.

You're probably fine. If you are really worried you could do some trickery using a proxy (google for free proxy) or an ssh tunnel. But seeing as how you don't want to pay for internet, I don't see you going for that route. Except for maybe the goat porn, I would definitely proxy that shit.
