Phil Steele Makes His College Football Predictions

Lengthy interview with Phil Steele on the upcoming college football season. He believes Virginia Tech will surprise, Alabama wins the national title and Auburn will be lucky to win 5-7 games among many other topics.

I agree with Auburn, people picking them to win 8 games, I don't see it. Most have them ahead of Miss State and I don't see that either

In his mag last year he picked Ohio St and Oklahoma to meet in the national championship game so I wouldn't count on Alabama winning the national title this season.

There's just a major difference in talent between Alabama and Penn State right now. I think it'll be a lot like last season's game.

How can Va. Tech surprise anyone? Have you seen their schedule? It just does not get any easier. I also think that Auburn is a 6-6 team this season.

Relf and Ballard are back and they do have ample experience returning on both sides of the ball. Solid team, but they won't be sneaking up on anyone this year. Put them in any other conference and you could be looking at DD wins, but that SEC schedule is grueling. They do catch a couple of the better teams at home though.

I have a feeling the WVU Mountaineers are going to suprise some people this year. I will be betting on them all year long. That offense is going to score some points and Geno Smith is one of the best QB's people know nothing about.

Alabama talent-wise is just on another level than pretty much any Big Ten team. They would have done to OSU the same thing they did to MSU last January, Pryor or no Pryor. Penn State without a QB doesn't stand a chance.

Virginia Tech losing Tyrod Taylor is addition by subtraction. Lack of QB play has really held the ACC back in recent years. The SEC is so stacked that if you're not on your game its tough to win 6 games. Auburn doesn't even need to suck to finish at the bottom of the division when they have to play Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, and Mississippi State. Maybe even Old Miss can catch them off guard.

Alabama wouldn't of done to OSU what they did to MSU. Come on man. OSU actually has talent to match up, MSU didn't. Alabama still would of won, but it would of been close.

I haven't come across anyone anywhere who has more football info at his disposal than Phil Steele. That said, his magazines and newsletters are unreadable. The print is so small, the Auburn War Eagle would need reading glasses. 90% of the information he gives you is historical data and really has very little significance in handicapping games. Northcoast is a reputable sports service, though very pricey, but in my opinion their biggest weakness is paralysis by analysis. Too much info.....

Looking forward to another great football season, boyz!!
