You should be surprised on how many people won't re-up this season. The offshore industry would get a rude awakening.

Saying the forums are all the same now is wrong as well , SBR has totally crushed the other forums in what they have to offer, maybe places like covers still has high traffic but you cant compare the two really in what they are doing.

The quality of posters issue does still seem to be a huge problem everywhere. I wish SBR did more to attract quality posters from other sites, not poaching posters , but encouraging posters to post at SBR and their present forum. The rx, even eog, and some of the other newer forums still have some great posters.Especially at the subforums during football season.

Shrink was ahead of his time. He started out like all of us did on wager talk. But he suckered a few guys to start helping him get organized and the RX was born. A lot of the 'legends' used top post there in the mid 90s. That and the AOL sports forum. So a good 15 years ago now. But forums really got going in 99 and 2000 up til maybe 2003 when the internet really became widespread for most of the U.S. Even in 2000 the internet was still pretty new and not until 01 did a lot of people even get away from dial up. Its amazing how fast the internet has changed since then.

But after 3 or 4 years the really smart guys figured they were better of selling/buying advertising space with these guys and kicking back losses with stiff/sponsor books than posting plays for free. it really didnt take too long at all for most of the forum owners to get the best ways in the world to lie chat and steal their way to massive amounts of cash.

Now in 2011 all that is gone basically. When Beantown Jim and JJgold are two of the biggest names left in the posting world it is a sad sight. But when all the other guys have REALLY sold out or taken paid positions to help screw people over even more the list gets short in a hurry.

Covers had the chance to be the big time but they sold out, and we are now seeing the fall out of how deep they did sell themselves. They had the perfect model. Massive free information, a ton of suckers and fish around and a decent variety of intelligent posters. But once they totally sold out the good guys all left or got banned, then it was filled with the yes men, the ghosts, and the typical scum that permeate this medium. RX is a pit now and has been for along time. major wager lost steam once Shrink and the major sropped having flame wars. Phoenix or whatever it was was decent for awhile, as there were a few smaller ones that flew under the radar but had excellent handicappers and guys who posting winning plays in a lot of sports.

Either way it is now just a game and the fish have gone broke or grown up and the new breed of guys taking their place are more into the social media scene of twitter and facebook or whatever other gayness there is out there to be totally self absorbed enough tot think everyone cares what you are doing not only on a daily basis but on a current up to date one.

Forums are old news and total surpassed by the instant effect of these other outlets. But for dinosaurs and wannabes they still hold some allure.

    A couple points:

One: the good cappers don't post their methods because they don't want their competition to get them (other cappers and thus ultimately the line).

Two: If the SBR Sports Book disappears, another group of us will vanish also.

Three: When you harass posters, don't be surprised then they leave.

Four: Soccer sux as a capping sport. Not enough data to suit me. Too much like hockey.

Great post. I actually thought I had been around a long time because I checked out rx in the beginning. I didn't even know about wager talk and the aol forums. Interesting stuff.

I still think SBRs innovations with sbr tv, the sportsbook, the points, etc. are pretty incredible. I see your point about interesting posters though, whats so strange to me is SBR is miles beyond the other forums in what they have to offer but some of these other forums actually have better posters , it doesnt have to be about poaching posters but finding good posters and encouraging more posters to post here and their previous places as well.

I think the problem you have with points is you may end up with a bunch of broke young guys who only post for points and try to end up feeding their family of 3 off points and sbr store pizzas.
