I agree with the other poster who said you can't let kids do this at that young age. I don't know the neighborhood, but it almost seemed like it is mostly Jewish and tight. I guess I could feel a sense of security, but still wouldn't let it happen. The parents went over the route many times and I could see it part of a growing up lesson.

no joke. I was walking back home 2 nights ago from Brighton Beach when this car with Jewish guys(it was obvious they were Jews, anyone from New York will know what I mean, they had beards and had the traditional orthodox Jewish black slacks with white shirts) pulled up and they asked me if I had seen a little boy. I responded no and they said if you do, call 911. This was all the way near Manhattan Beach/Brighton Beach, which is pretty far from Kensington which is way up North, though I'm pretty sure this is the same kid they were talking about. That is awful to hear what happened to the kid. Thoughts are with the family.

they said on the news that the kid wandered off his route and got lost and ran into the guy and asked him for help. the guy took him to the dentist office with him told him to wait outside while he paid a bill and then took him to his house. he said at the house he was just hangin out with the kid. he then panicked that he took the kid to his house and strangled him and chopped him up.

It's terrible that a kid can't walk 4 blocks by himself in his own neighborhood without getting his feet chopped off. I'm sure he was mature for his age and that's why his mom trusted him to walk it halfway unattended.

New York City and most of its boroughs are complete and utter dumps nowadays, I say this having seen the areas transform firsthand. You used to be able to leave your doors unlocked until the neighborhoods became so... diversified, for lack of a better word. Foolish to trust your neighbor anymore.
