Let this be a lesson for people. Don't decide what to do unless you consult your lawyer else you will step into some deep doodoo.

That's not ridiculous. If it was allowed then people would launder money. For example my neighbor can give me $20,000 cash after I gave him a bag of oranges from my orchard and Uncle Sam wouldn't care.

welfare, foodstamps, etc. any government funded program that allows people the opportunity to sit on their asses, reproduce so they can collect more benefits with each additional child, and contribute absolutely nothing to society in the way of taxes so that ppl who make an honest living can get taxed more to support all the illegals and lazy asses out there is what's ridiculous.

this guy chose what he chose. he should have been smarter, but if he had sold the ball for $250k or whatever it would wind up going for he'd be taxed even heavier on that. It's just that he would wind up with a 'smaller' cash pay day instead of tickets which he now has to pay taxes on when it's been revealed he's already in debt from student loans

If your neighbor wanted to give you 20,000 of HIS money for a bag of YOUR oranges that should be between you two. Not the government.

He should at least ask for the cash equivalent of the tickets and walk away with something after being ass raped by Uncle Sam.

Yankees/Jeter will pay this off. Or they'll use the gift loophole and he won't owe any taxes.

It might of been worth more because it was a homer and a 5 hit game ball as well, only Jeter and Boggs wentyard on their 3000th hit.

This is going to end badly for the Yankees if they don't step up soon and do right for this dumb kid. Gave him tickets? LMAO. Now kid has to pay the taxes.

I'd bet this isn't the first time IRS has gone after taxes on ticket give aways.

He should have contacted Mike Corbin for legal representation. The video of the price negotiations would be worth more than the ball.

500k is steep but not out of the queston as a possibility for what he wouldve gotten if he sold it. it IS the 3,000th hit of a yankee. the only yankee to ever have 3000 hits. and it isnt tainted by roids. someone wouldve paid handily for it. charlie sheen still has a shitload of money to waste.
