    How Ridiculous is ESPN?

    they just said that

a game-tying goal in the Quarterfinals of the Women's World Cup is

the 5th most dramatic sports moment of all time

is there really no other encompassing sports network on the planet?

Whats wrong with that? If you were watching, it was an absolutely amazing goal and they overcame a ton of shit in that game and scored with 2 minutes left in the game.

    Hmm lets see.

    1. Retaken penalty
    2. Marta's goal in ET being offside
    3. Playing half the game a player down

    Ummm...no, not even close.

It WAS a great goal, but didn't have nearly the implications that a bunch of US college kids beating the unbeatable Soviet hockey machine in the middle of the cold war while Americans were being held captive in Teheran.

I think its a little early to rank this feat. Its a great moment, but I think you have to give it a little time to digest before reflecting on its place in history.

I'll buy top 20, top 5, no way.

    Bill Mazerowski
    Joe Carter
    Jordan
    Bobby Thompson

all come to mind, I'm not even awake yet.

But if you want to put that goal top 15 or 20 all time, I'm fine with that.

This happens all the time in soccer in OT. It's not that rare as ESPN thinks. Remember last year's WC in SA when Suarez blocked the goal with his hand on the last minute in OT and then Gyan missed the PK. That was more dramatic than women's soccer equalizer.

I remember when ESPN was trying to make the women's soccer win over China the greatest thing since slice bread. When I think of that moment, I remember more about Brandi Chastain's strip show.

But it has to include the US to be dramatic.

Espn likes to show/promote new material.

espn is unbearable enough when they have round the clock coverage on brett favre or lebron's the decision.

but this takes the cake, i deliberately avoided espn yesterday (and most likely today) cuz of stupid shit like this.

I can't tell you all how happy it makes me to see so many people trashing ESPN for their bullshit. Thank You SBR for giving me hope that maybe one day there will be a network that gets back to broadcasting sports for the sportsfan instead of the soap opera crap ESPN pimps everyday.

In the beginning they were true to their word, they've been junk since the 80's.

Bob Ley is the best they got, he deserves to be working for a better outfit than that clown college.

It's called MLB TV network, nothing but news without the schtick and out of market games all week.

The closest they got to 'schtick' is Kevin Millar's show, but a) he's very amusing and b) he can do schtick because
what he knows about baseball, the common man will never learn.

Now if the US should happen to, uh, lose one of the next TWO games it would take to win the title, will there be a recount? (Was a great win, though.)

MLB Network, NBA TV are great, NFL Network too busy trying to be ESPNjr.
