Would Ichiro have a good chance of winning the HR derby if he entered?

Read an article about him and people said this guy hits more home runs than anyone in batting practice.

Then i wondered why he didn't hit home runs in games and article mentioned if he hit for power, it would lower his batting average a lot. There were quite a few people who said Ichiro would have a good chance of winning this home run derby if he entered.

Do you guys think he would have a good shot at winning it? It would be funny if he hit 10 home runs in the first round and then other players and teams will wonder why didn't he try hitting for home runs during the game. He has only 1 home run this entire year but anyone here surprised players say Ichiro hit more home runs than anyone in batting practice?

He is the best contact hitter in all of baseball and definitely better than Derek Jeter. But it would be pretty damn obvious Jeter couldn't hit any home runs at Batting Practice. But this story about Ichiro just sounds weird in that he hits so many hrs in BP.

Yes and I'm amazed it took you this long to realize Ichiro is a BP monster. He's been doing this for years, but he doesn't play that way in games.

Yisman, i had no clue Ichiro is a Batting Practice monster. Well, i would thought most of his monster hits in BP was singles or doubles. But i didn't know that he hits hrs easily in BP. It didn't make any sense and how few players and coaches said they would bet Ichiro would win the hr derby which sounded like a joke.

they have been saying it ever since he got here

    guy crushes it in BP

    but its not his game

if he took one year and just tried to hit homers guy could probably get 40+

in his earlier years. not now probably

False. He'd have a chance on a baseball field.

    http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m...3/ai_n6355547/

    From 2004

"But you watch him take batting practice and he hits balls farther than anybody. I would put my money on him in a home run contest."
"My second year in Japan," White Sox announcer Darrin Jackson says, "he hit 25 home runs and the league leader had only 28. When we were going to the All-Star series in Yokohama, he hit a ball out of the stadium in batting practice."
That's quite an accomplishment for a five-foot, nine-inch, 170-pound hitter who pokes the ball.

Why did he not try hitting home runs then? Is it because his batting average will lower a ton because of it?

He is lying cant hit them in games consistently, this year he is only hitting .270 if he could hit homers he should. He was way overrated in his prime .330 with no walks or power is not that good he should of hit 30 homers if he could.

I'm sure he could've hit 30 homers but again, that's not his game. Whether he'd be a better player if he swung for power, I don't know, but he never played that style in games.

Who is lying? There are a number of people who have reported on Ichiro's raw power. He's not going out there telling people he has huge power. Others who watch him are.

He is one of the best contact hitters in baseball. Never once in his career he had less than 200 hits. I say he probably be the leader in hits of all time if he didn't play in japan the first 7 years.

But i'm just surprised why he wouldn't enter the HR derby. If he did and then won it, that would be all over sportscenter.

Ichiro was a little overrated due to the lack of walks, but he was still an elite player for years. Used to hit for a very high average, play great defense, and be a great baserunner.

Ichiro has a career BA of .328 and averages close to 40 steals a year.

But i'm just surprised why he wouldn't enter the HR derby. If he did and then won it, that would be all over sportscenter.
The captains of the derby are not usually very bright. Rickie Weeks is playing in the derby this year.

Ichiro was a good player because of base running and defense but just an average hitter he said he could hit 30 homers but average would drop like .50 points but he would of been way better if he did that.

Most baseball players that do not walk are overrated Ichiro, Puckett, Gwynn, Guerrero etc.
