Having a large income gap between the rich and the poor segregates society, which can be witnessed in the United States where ghettos that exist would simply not be found nearly as frequently as in nations with lower Gini Coefficients. I don't know why but I'm shocked by the reaction to this. It's not about welfare (though to some extent it is about the minimum wage) and it's not about working hard (the salary ratio of the CEO to avg. worker, unless you don't think the avg. worker exerts any effort).
