All the "pro" are online players now.

You are an old man that's why you've never heard of Elky, Katchalov, Mercier, etc.

They are all "pros" winning these.

Game has changed, tv pros are few and far between, it's just a bunch of aggro online donks fighting it out.

Most superstars are Cash Game Players now. Dwan, Antonius, Sahamies, combined have 0 bracelets, but also worth over 50 million each.

    Ivey isnt playing.
    Helmuth cashed 4x.
    Negreanu cashed 2x
Juanda won a bracelet as you mentioned
    Jason Mercier won a bracelet.

I don't know and doubt the 50M number but either way, your point is correct, there are a lot of big name pros that have done well and an even larger number of lesser known pros have also done well.

Tourney's (especially the WSOP) are high variance, therefore the "big names" do not always make the final table and/or big cashes.

I am sure they are probably doing quite well at the side cash games.

    Cheers.

If you interested in poker a little bit you should recognize that names:

Bracelet winners: Jake Cody, Allen Bari, Eugene Katchalov, John Juanda, Bertrand Grospellier, Jason Mercier, Andre Akarri.

Runner ups: Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Maria Ho, Allen Kessler, Phill Hellmuth twice, Eric Buchman, Mike Sexton, Shawn Buchanan, Michael Mizrachi, Justin Bonomo.

    Plenty of names for me.

Dwan is debatable for 50 mil Net Worth IMO.
Sahamies not close, but still a happy millionaire.
Antonius could have 1 dollar and have a net worth of 50 mil because his wife is bangin.

Everybody knows that the real money made during the WSOP is in the cash games. Most pros could care less if they win or not. They make their buyins back in an hour schooling online fish.

What other sport is like that, where a person could come from nowhere and take it all, maybe women's gymnastics?

lol, look at the winner list. Just about all of them are in fact PRO poker players(guys that play poker for a living). The guys you see on TV(Dwan, Ivey, Helmuth, Negreanu, etc) aren't the only PRO poker players. There are thousands of professional poker players that you will not see on television.

I know this is just to drive traffic but just because you don't recognize a name doesn't mean they aren't good or haven't had success in the past.

Basically all the "unknowns" winning these are far better than the pros you see on TV

Most of the guys - known or not - who play in these tournaments are good enough to win any given tournament. There's just not that much difference between them. I'm not saying poker is not game of skill, but once you know what you're doing and you're pretty good, the difference among all those guys just isn't that much. It isn't like other sports where the talent difference usually matters. In poker it doesn't. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that any random douche can win in and win, but of those 8,000+ who entered, probably any of at least have of them have/had almost as good a chance as any other. The top "pros" are just better at marketing and play more and run well at the right times.
