    Entire MINNESOTA GOVERNMENT shutdown!

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- A budget stalemate forced a virtual full shut down of the Minnesota government on Friday and left only a limited array of state services in operation over the busy holiday weekend.
Visitors won't be able to go to the state parks or the zoo, and travelers will find the highway rest stops shuttered. Road construction projects will cease, as will licensing for teachers and businesses

Many social service agencies will lose their funding, cutting state support for programs such as job training and homelessness prevention. Those that don't have reserves will likely close their doors.
And up to 23,000 state workers are scheduled to be laid off, though they will continue to get health benefits and can return to their jobs when the budget impasse is resolved.
Basic health and safety services will continue, a judge ruled on Wednesday. The state must continue funding custodial care for residents in prisons, treatment centers and nursing homes. The state troopers will continue to patrol. The state universities will also remain open.

And the world will not end....

Not much you described would qualify as a government necessity anyway. Zoos, rest stops, licensing, meh.

All because the evil GOP refuses to allow a tax increase on individuals making 180K+ or couples making 300K+.

There used to be a time when the wealthy paid much more in taxes and we got along just fine. Now the corrupt GOP thinks they should pay zero all under the guise of job creation and growth. Bunch of crap if you ask me. This people live like kings, while the middle class is being destroyed at the hands of the GOP.

Cry me a river. The wealthiest 1% own like 90% of the stock market and 60% of all the assets in this country. They can afford and should pay WAY more than they do. I hope Dayton keeps it shut down until all these GOP clowns quit.

Why should one be penalized because they were more successful in life?

it's all staged dumbazz...the goal is to show the sheeple that increasing taxes and Gov. spending is the only way out. They will use Minessota to discredit any attempt to control the national debt and to promote increasing taxes.

there was really no reason to shut down the Gov...it's easy to cut spending if they where serious about it. they try to scare the Gov. workers by saying they want to laid them off...this is only so they will vote more Gov., to understand they have to worship the Gov. or else they will become homeless...

it's so much to this story you simply can't understand...better stick with you garbage scavenging and let the politics for the informed ones.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Why should those who have the work ethic, brains, & balls to have found some sort of success be forced to pay for those who haven't? This is how capitalism works.

Why would we choose to champion mediocrity?

Exactly. Government on every level has a spending problem not a revenue problem. State governments should cut their budgets in half. HALF!

The whole government right now is one big huge mess. The GOP is sure wrecking the country and they are sure showing why also. The GOP is so stubborn on anything that wants to be done here to raise more revenue for the government. It is sure going to be an interesting month of July in states and federal level on these budgets.
