You Gamblers will appreciate this... even if you don't play Poker

So my wife and I went next door to our neighbors for a friendly game of hold em' last night. It was just the four of us. My neighbor counts the deck and shuffles thoroughly before throwing out cards to see who gets the dealer button. This was the result.

The probability of getting 4 of a kind in hold em' is 1 in 4165. Can anyone tell me what the odds of dealing out 4 of a kind off the top of the deck is?... (that's getting 4 of a kind and only dealing 4 cards from the deck). And to top it off they were all 6's... I was shocked when I saw the first 3 land... imagine when I saw 4th.

    Multiply 4/52 x 3/51 x 2/50 x 1/49.......that's the % of getting four 6s.

Wait zam answer me this first, was it your friend who created the SBR Poker random number generator? Because if so, with him involved it's like a 99.5% Chance of happening with .5% chance of error due to disconnect.

    it's one out of 20,825 to deal the 1st 4 cards as 4 of a kind (1/1 x 3/51 x 2/50 x 1/49). if you don't know how to calculate this you probably shouldn't be playing poker.

a little strange but hardly the craziest thing to ever happen.

a better question is how can it be a fun/fair game if wives are involved? i have never liked playing poker where 2 or more people at the table have essentially the same financial interest.

In my world financial interests don't come into play when everyone at the table is getting drunk and having fun on a Friday night after the kids go to bed. Thanks for letting me know what your cynical parameters of playing cards are though.

I was in a ring game at SBR Poker a couple days ago. Flop comes up AAA. Turn comes up A.

Rare but 4 of the same card does happen.
