Ron Paul to introduce bill to legalize marijuana

    http://ca.news.yahoo.com/lawmakers-i...225335489.html

A group of US representatives plan to introduce legislation that will legalize marijuana and allow states to legislate its use, pro-marijuana groups said Wednesday.
The legislation would limit the federal government's role in marijuana enforcement to cross-border or inter-state smuggling, and allow people to legally grow, use or sell marijuana in states where it is legal.
The bill, which is expected to be introduced on Thursday by Republican Representative Ron Paul and Democratic Representative Barney Frank, would be the first ever legislation designed to end the federal ban on marijuana.

If Paul ends up with GOP backing do you think the media might bring up the "Borat" clip? It's a bit of an odd situation. How do you explain that?

EVERY single Presidential Debate should start with this question... "What do you think would happen if we legalized Marijuana?". Although I doubt this question will actually ever be asked I suspect this is some of the answers we would get:
Candidate 1: When I was 9 I was climbing a tree.... blah blah blah blah...
Candidate 2. When I am forced with tough questions I look to God for answers... blah blah blah blah....
Candidate 3. That reminds of a time in my youth... blah blah blah blah...
Ron Paul: We could Tax the hell out of it and balance the budget. We could get SOME drug dealers off of the street. We could stop wasting tax payers money by not sending non-violent criminals to prison. We would be in increasing individual Liberty's like the Constitution intended. Marijuana usage among the general population would stay exactly the same. There is no downside to this. NONE!

    1. We would save billions of dollars by not keeping "marijuana criminals in jail.
    2. We would raise billions of dollars taxing it.
    3. The Christian conservative right would vote against any republican backing it, because that core knows that man is not wise enough to choose and think for himself.

50 million Americans regularly smoke pot so it's not a bad idea to find votes.

Very unlikely it will pass, it would cut off a billion dollar business for drug cartels and a billion dollar business for law enforcement.

No, he's doing it because he's principled. Unlike the other establishment GOPers looking to get elected at any means whatsoever.

He has my vote if he really pushes for this. I've always thought the easiest way out of this hole the US is in is to legalize weed and gambling, its 2 things that are recession proof and are down in great volumes by US citizens while the government loses by not taxing it.

Fair enough. But Marijuana would surely be taxed. And it would raise Billions like Justin7 said. I wasn't actually trying to quote Ron Paul in my post. I was just trying to get the general message across. I'm pretty sure we are on the same side when it comes to this issue.

Never underestimate the depth of Ron Paul's intelligence! He tackles the controversial issues other less gutsy candidates willnot attempt.

You can be assured, any unpopular decision he makes, he has thoroughly dissected

he doesnt say he will legalize it, he wants Federal level be no part of it. Legalizing it would decide from the people of the states.

exactly, alcohol was illegal back in the days. The only reason gov't is hesitant on mary jane legalization is they'll have hard time regulating the product in order for it to be taxed. You can grow the product right at your backyard.

Basically is out here in CA.. Certain cities treat it a little different. You can see people smoking weed leaning up against cop cars hitting the pipe on Turk and Eddy St in the "Loin" out here in the Ya Area. They could care less about weed but you will get busted for any harder drugs.

You can grow tobacco plants in ur backyard also except its a federal offence. Try taking their revenue away and watch what happens...Replicate that model with pot..
