Peyton Manning has maybe a 35-40% chance to break it so that is not a good one though amazing

With the changes to sports every year who knows. I think Dimaggio will stand. That is a record that no rule changes or expansion can alter, Joe was there with his bat 56 games in a row. No 0 fers.
Ripken and Farve are not far behind.

The NHL season could be expanded to more games giving someone a chance at Gretzkys record. But current head hunting makes it seem unlikely. See Sidney Crosby. A question remains, does Gretzkys 92 goals against a watered down NHL beat Maurice Richard who scored 50 in 50 games against the original 6 teams? Mike Bossy also scored 50 in 50 in a less watered down league.
NBA rules could also be changed in the future. Kobe was shooting 3 pt'ers in his 81 pt game. Wilt only shot 2's and from the charity stripe during his 100 pt night, could the NBA have a 4 pt line in 10 or 15 years? Maybe 5 pts from half court? Expansion also comes into play here.
I could see the sack record tumbling at some point, but rule changes to protect the QBs could change that too.

I'm approaching 50 and have seen so many rule changes and so much expansion, not much would surprise me. I don't even watch NHL anymore because it sucks now, and I am Canadian. I played against Wayne Gretzky when I was 10 years old.

How about a team record that may never be broken. From their inception in 1915, until 1993 the Montreal Canadien never went more than 7 years without winning a Stanley Cup.

If it's mathematically impossible to do, how are you able to assign odds to it?

There is one that is even more unlikely than that. A score of 300 in Bowling. Nobody will ever beat it.

Also a perfect game in baseball. No one can beat a perfect game in baseball. Once you give up no hits or no walks in a game no one can beat it.

the record i posted is legitimate.. yours is not.. you cannot bowl more than 300, it's the max.. but you can technically hit 7 grand slams in 1 inning.. it's highly unlikely, but still, it can be done.. but you cannot get more than 300 in bowling. .big difference

Eddy Merckx - 1969 Tour de France. Only cyclist ever to win the GC (yellow jersey), the sprint (green jersey) and the King of the mountains (polka dot jersey).

They didn't have it at the time but he would have won the young riders (white jersey) classification as well. Greatest cyclist of all time and this record will never be broken.

    Bump.
I was sitting with some friends yesterday talking about Montreal Hockey from the old times and I remembered this thread.
Still gotta go with the 7 sacks in one game by Derrick Thomas as the most likely to be broken. Of the original 4.
The bowling record of 300 stinks, it can only be tied, so it doesn't fit this discussion.
My question is do you think anyone will ever win a trophy as MVP in the play-offs, the year BEFORE they become rookie of the year in a league ever again? Like Ken Dryden did in the '70's. While I am on Dryden, he won 6 Stanley Cups in 8 seasons and 6 games plus 1 post season. Anyone gonna do that anytime soon?

Valid list, but I'd argue that each game has changed and leads to all (virtually) standing.

First 4, plus Vandemeer BB. Sacks probably falls 1st (eventually).

First 123
