Someone posted a vid once of Ivey misreading a winning hand, a flush I think it was, happens to the best of them if they're groggy enough.

    OK found it

Holy Christ @ Ivey MUCKING a winning hand...
I've played a TON of poker in my life, but I've never played a multi-day tournament.
I have to assume that some of those can REALLY take a lot out of people (that video above being an example).
    Incredible.

Here is "the explanation" of Ivey's hand.

The other two guys probably think you have the fifth 4's. Do you have it by the way?

To an all in on the river he perhaps could fold, but theres no possible way to fold to such a small bet on the turn when he turned a full house, man theres been a lot of justifyin of this ridiculously horrific play in this thread , you internet poker players really are the tightest sobs in the world.

Has anyone justifying this play even played poker before?

I've folded AA preflop to a multi-person all in before. It's all about gut shots sometimes.

To check the nuts on the river (when you are last to act) is against the rules. You will get at least a warning if they give you the benefit of the doubt but they may also penalize you if they think you are colluding or if the table raises a fuss.

and to be very specific in case somebody wants to nitpick, no it is not against the strict card rules but it is against the rules in every legitimate poker room or tournament run by anyone who has a clue.

Plain and simple, checking the nuts on the river when you are last to act is not allowed in casino or tournament that I have ever heard of.

If you do it in a tournament, they might warn you and/or make you sit out an orbit on the first offence. In a cash game, if they think you did it intentionally, they probably will kick you out. It is the floorman's discretion on the punishment but it is against the rules of play.

    Cheers

?? my original statement clearly stated the mistake was to not RAISE on the river w/ the nuts in position, not checking

LOL, ok, I guess I was nit-picking while missing the *raise* term. my bad.

    Sorry about this bud.

A lot of people do not understand this rule and therefore I was trying to make it clear.

    Cheers.

    Hey Trix,

I thought about this a bit more and looked it up with nothing definative that clearly describes checking vs raising. I would say that to check or call with the stone cold nuts, is soft play and therefore falls under the same rule.

That said if the guy was not unethically soft playing, as you noted, it is probably one of the stupidest plays you could make.

    Cheers

not the worst. there was a thread on twoplustwo a couple of years ago where a guy at the world series folded and showed the nut straight on the flop because he thought the other guy had him freerolled with straight plus flush draw.
