Cliff notes:

A pharmacist at a small time pharmacy in Oklahoma is on duty. Two black kids run in, both masked and one with a gun pointed at the pharmacist and demand drugs and money. Pharmacist grabs his gun and shoots one kid in the head. Then chases the other kid out of the store. Upon re-entering the store, the pharmacist states the kid on the ground was trying to get up so he shot him 6 more times, killing him instantly.

This just went to trial and after only four hours of deliberation a 12 person jury (8 female, 4 male) unanimously convicted this pharmacist of 1st degree murder (pre-meditated) and sentenced him to life in prison.


Now this guy that was protecting himself as well as two other female employees spends the rest of his life behind bars for killing a gun toting robber. What a bunch of bullshit

The family of the slain robber has done a great job of making this public. This puts a lot of pressure on the DA to convict. Seeing a grieving mother on TV hollering "oh Jesus" while sobbing tends to do this. I think this guy is a hero...

More than anything this highlights how unjust our justice system can be. Does this guy really deserve to spend the rest of his life in jail? The guy has no priors, is a productive tax paying citizen with a respectable job. He also got a thug, thief and potential murderer off the streets

I haven't fully read the story, but if he shot the guy the first time and when he came back and that guy was trying to get back up, it really depends if that guy had a gun as well or not. If that guy had a gun then he can shoot the second and whatever time as defense but if he didn't have a weapon, then it's considered murder. First degree seems extremely harsh. I am most confident that they are going to appeal this case and tone it down to manslaughter

I agree with you completely. Would this kid be dead had he decided to stay home that day instead of holding up a store with his friend? No. They came onto this man's property and held a gun at him. Being shot at is a risk they took when they chose to hold up the store. He deserves some jail time for allegedly executing the kid, but not life in prison.

Corbin, LIFE IN PRISON THOUGH? 1st degree murder requires pre-meditation. To me, this is hardly pre-meditated because he was likely making an irrational decision due to the situation these two kids just put him in.

When you point a gun at someone during a robbery you should always expect that dying is a real possibility. This pharmacist and two female employees could have very well been amongst the dead instead.

There was one guy with a gun (the one that got away) .. the guy that was already on the ground with a shot to the head who was not moving was never armed during the entire robbery.

If the pharmacist was worried about him getting up and attacking him (despite a gunshot to the head) why did he walk back past him to get the second gun?
