Ryan, my pet, any business will offset that cost in other ways. It will not come out of their profits. Even you have to admit that. They will either raise the cost on their services or cut back on employees.

Yes, that was the point to my post; that even thought the polls currently have Obama ahead, people will wake up before Nov. 4 and not let such a tragedy befall these United States.

    Nice dog in your avatar.

As far as I know he hasn't actually proposed to raise the corporate tax rate. McCain seems to want to lower it to 25%, Obama seems to be offering a corporate tax break in terms of a per-worker credit.

His "not paying enough" rhetoric seems to be a reference to the fact that the US corporate income tax is a joke. He has some vague references to "closing loopholes" and "cracking down on offshore tax havens", though it's not clear what he would actually intend to do and whether it would be effective.

I'd be surprised if he managed to increase corporate tax revenue.

Obama has stated many times in the debates that part of his economic plan is to raise taxes for business owners large and small and giving a tax cut to the lower class. yea give more of a tax break to the people that dont even pay taxes in the first place.

both candidates will continue to ruin this country. but Obama will ruin the country in a whole new way via socialism

Could you please explain the Phillips Curve to us all then? Macroeconomists and supporting data seem to be at odds with your "theory."

I hope you all made the maximum donation to McCain of $2,300. He could really use the cash and you will surely get it back in his tax cuts (assuming you make over $250,000).

    Lower unemployment, higher wages.

And it isn't "my" theory. The higher the expenses, the more cuts that have to be made elsewhere. That is just common sense.

I think it's actually McCain who says that Obama is going to raise the taxes on businesses, not Obama. I assume that McCain says this because Obama plans to let the Bush tax cuts expire for the top two personal income tax brackets, and that small business are often S corporations. I don't know, is this really something to worry about? Going to kill small business because wealthy (and only the wealthy) small business owners pay more personal income tax?

Well let me ask you this question, Mr. Cat. How many people do you know who make under 250k that hire people at decent wages and with benefits?

So your "common sense" debunks one of the most widely held, fundamental, and historically supported principles of macroeconomics? You are saying that unemployment and inflation have a positive correlation. Apparently, you should go rewrite the books at Wharton. Care to support your argument with data? I'd love to see it, as I'm sure it would earn you a Nobel Prize.

I think you are asking me this because of what you've alluded to in your other responses-- that is, that if those people (who I will concede run businesses that provide good jobs to other people) are taxed higher, that they will hire less people.

it's not clear to me that this is the case. We are talking about a percentage of the profits from a business being taxed. The higher tax rate won't affect the marginal cost of production. It isn't clear to me that the level of employment should change. Further, because the tax is only on the profits of the business, it shouldn't cause the business to shut down. I don't think it can't be looked at as an "overhead" the way you seem to want to look at it. I don't know-- I suppose it's possible that someone might think "okay, I'm getting taxed too high on my personal income, this isn't worth the headache anymore, I'm just going to shut down and retire", but it seems like a pretty obscure case.
