Would you be pissed if your wife didn't take your surname ?

I don't know if it would bother me not ? My Wife ( 1st, last and only) took my name, but returned to her maiden name after her 1st divorce.

She has two daughters ( my step-daughters), both married within the last few years, one took the husband's name, one did not !

I can see not taking the name for a professional reason like a realtor, dentist or something losing clients by losing her name and therefore identity....not really the case here .

I might be a bit pissed if I married and wife refused my name ( without a professional reason).

    Would it bother you ?

I'm pretty conservative from a conservative state. While it wouldn't necessarily bother me from a ego standpoint, I doubt that I would ever get to the point of marriage with a girl who chose not to take on her husbands last name. Our differences would have been revealed well before this point.

Well I can see it professionally. If I marry a lawyer - bitch, doctor, etc she might want to keep her name ( Say Ochenkowski) having built up a practice, if she's a sort of nobody that needs her old name ( my SD)...I'd be a bit peeved about it !

Now if I'm Doug Saltalamachia....we don't won't to get into some 80's hyphenated BS names....

Is our 1st kid is Chris Ochenkowski- Saltalamachia, or is it Chris Saltalamackia-Ochenkowski

I have a young female dentist her surname is G******man, I know she recently had a baby and such ( from the receptionist). I check these people out before I let them drill my teeth or whatever. The broad dentist is Dr G*******man-Munson. I can see why she didn't take the munson name....earned her DDS under HER name. I'd be cool with a wife wanting to keep her name under circumstances like that !

I think my SD refusing the name is a real slap in the chops to the hubby....his name isn't bad at all, both Italian names....I'd prefer his name in fact, her's is a bit longer and harder to pronounce.

    damn that is demasculating.

i have noticed this happens more in the black and hispanic communities than in the white community.

if a girl didnt take my last name, or wanted to hyphonate it, i would lose my composure

My wife kept her surname but the kids have mine. We both were well established in our own businesses in our own names and married later in age. It also didn't make sense to change her name because we didn't want some people to know we were married in some cases because some of our businesses overlap. Folks are usually very surprised to find out we're married.

I guess if I had a wife that didn't do shit and I brought home all the money while she watched soap operas all day, I'd want her to control/command her. But in my case it's not an issue and I don't have a misplaced ego.

I'd excuse professional reasons that make business sense.

I'd be pissed under these circumstances ( if him), but she makes most of the money, and he has a child to support from a non-marriage. It might be under legal advice to keep the house in her name only or something ?

    I don't know, but I don't like hyphenated names.....way too 80's for me !

It's all about trying to hide Shit ( assets...purchased home) from the mother of the kid ( joint custody), so she don't petition for more support ( IMO).....I'm pretty sure that is the real reason.....sort of trying to evading some bills ! It is the American way !

Your wife is more successful than you. You should take her name Doug.

PO69, the only thing your wife should take from you is your cholestoral level so she knows when you'll finally go up

In Costa Rica, the woman does not take the man's last name when they get married. If they have a child together, the child's name is first name, second name, father's last name, mother's last name. Hence the reason why ya'll have to send **/MGs to names like Francisco Diego Uvares Perez.

Marriage won't even exist in 50 years. 50% divorce today, fuk everything is the value of the day, a lot don't want kids, will be zero reason to marry. Continue the trend.

I wouldn't have been mad if she didn't want to take my name, but definitely no hyphened combo last names. She could take mine or keep hers but not have both. And the kids must have my last name, it would be disgraceful for a man's biological children not to carry on his last name.

Yeah, I guess if my last name was Ochocinco or something it would be OK if they passed, otherwise, they gotta obey, right? It's in the vows dammit.

My friend's wife said she would take his last name (it's kind of a long goofy one) but she has yet to do so.

I'm considering taking my girlfriend's last name when we marry or making one up for both of us because I hate my last name.

The ones who don't change their names are socialist, politically correct, fascist, zealot radical feminists who will dump you for another woman or a foreign exchange student.Remember runner Mary,Decker,Tab,Slaney? Now I think she's married again after Slaney. And when she ran in competition,Jim ** Cay on Wide World Of Sports had to say her whole name each time. And she was just a hyphenated b%tch feminist. The ones who keep their names are even worse.

i only make my slaves take my last name, not my wives.

disclaimer: this is not a racist comment because my slaves are of all races.

disclaimer II: obviously i don't have slaves (or maybe i do) and this is my interpretation of "derp, take my last name or take a hike comments"

Yeah, i'd be pretty pissed off. Like was said, if it was for a professional reason, or if i had an incredibly stupid last name, i would completely understand. Other than that, i would probably take it as a slap in the face.
