Who here flies often? I got a ???

I have only flown twice and both were many years ago. I have a question....

First off I am flying US Airways. Leaving Pittsburgh....going to Philadelphia and then catching a connecting flight to the Dominican. When I check my luggage into the first plane, do I need to pick it back up and have it rechecked onto the second plane? Or will the baggage automatically be transferred to my second plane for me?

I understand about the carry on process, and two of our bags will be too large for that, so they HAVE to be checked. I just don't know if those bags will then just meet me in the Dominican, or if they will be back in my possession in between the connecting flights. Someone with experience let me know....these are the things I stress about

No, brother. Your bags will be checked thru straight to the Dominican.

You bags will be checked straight through, but make sure you have a change of clothes in your carry-on in case they get lost.

Drop them off, pick them up in DR. You won't see them again after Pittsburgh.

You need to definitely pack a change of clothes, and any really important items, in your carry-on. The reality is, when you change planes like that, sometimes your bags may not get their when you do. I've had this happen many times. Never lost them completely, but several times the airline had to bring them to my hotel the next day. It happens.

Also, remember, you get to bring (1) carry-on and (1) personal item. So a duffel and a backpack for you....and a duffel and large purse for your wife. We travel all of the time, and often we can get by on shorter trips without even checking bags. being a week, I know you'll need to check bags, but just take advantage of all that you can as far as carry-on.

Lastly, be sure to get on board as soon as possible. If you're in first class, you shouldn't have any problems with overhead space. But in coach, those overhead bins fill up really quickly. Get on board and get your stuff in there asap.

    Enjoy your trip, brother.

I appreciate it very much. I will follow every bit of that advice.

This flying stuff is nerve racking.

Yep definitely put some swim trunks and shirt and sandals in your carry on. Last thing you want is for your checked in bags to be missing for a day or 2 and not have an extra set of clothes, especially your daily clothes.

    I wouldn't sweat it.

I'd strongly encourage you to watch the movie Cast Away starring Tom Hanks, before you depart.

This should really help to put your mind at complete ease about air travel!

    Happy flying, WV!!
