I propose making people take a test before voting in the election.

    Simple questions...

Name the three branches of Gov't
    Name 3 basic Democratic Principles
    Name 3 basic Republican Principles
    Name 2 Supreme Court Judges
Name the current President and Vice President of the United States

    Candidates Section

Name Three Polices or Ideas Barrack Obama stands for...
Name Three Polices or Ideas John McCain stands for...
    Name V.P. candidate for each.

I think this simple test would eliminate at least %50 of the U.S. population. But really how sad is it when someone will vote for Barrack Obama simply because he's black, or someone will switch between Clinton to Palin just because they are female.

Its like we are leading cattle.

No offense topgame, but your response is a prime example of why a test is needed.

Democracy isn't the best form of government because the electorate makes knowledgeable and intelligent choices. It's best because the other forms are all atrocious (as per Churchill).

If you have electoral tests for elgibility, it's not democracy any more.

That would be discrimination or racist

Doing that would favor a white Pres and eliminate tons of voters

Tests have been used in the past to limit people's right to vote, namely in the south. They were used as a tool to deny black suffrage. They are a bad idea as they are means for corruption and ballot-fixing.

I can answer every one of those questions easily I'm a political science major and other than gambling and work its all I really pay attention to if you really look at both these candidates tell me where there are significant differences, they both want to spend a ton of money the country doesn't have to spend (Obama on healthcare and regulating shit/Mccain on continuing Iraq war and Tax cuts for wealthy), Both wanted the bailout, both want us to continue a failing foreign policy (Mccain attacking countries/ Obama negotiating and talking to them) when we should just mind our own damn buisiness, Both claim to be a friend to taxpayers when neithers record shows that to be the case, they both have shady connections and back room dealing

Individual views may vary slightly but they both lead us into bankruptcy, international conflict/interventions and the same corrupt back room tactics

That being said Obama is better by a very very narrow margin, plus if we elect him black people can't pretend white people hate them and theres a huge conspiracy anymore

Anyone that is a legal United states Citizen would be able to take the test. This would eliminate two kinds of people. Illegal aliens and uneducated/unknowledgeable people from voting for the highest and most powerful position known to man.

Now can you make the case that it would primaraly affect senior citizens and the african american race? Yes you can...but ignorance isnt a strong defense and should not be used in this case.

I'm in favor of tests that would basically measure two features: head (intelligence/intellect) and heart.

I don't think that someone who can't read or write should have the same vote as an Einstein. And I don't think that a heartless scientist should get the same vote as a Gandhi. So I would assign the greatest value to the highest scores that also showed a balance between heart and mind. For instance, a person with a 10 for intellect but a 1 for heart would score quite low (that takes out the extremist neocons and other nazi like characters). Based on these scores I would assign each person a number of votes.

Any talk of ideas such as these is pointless unless and until the voting machines are secured against tampering. It is a piece of cake to change the outcome today. Until that day talk of democracy isn't even on the table.

I know they cant vote. I was expalining who the test would disqualify...which would also STILL make illegals unable to vote.

If passing a test such as this was necessary to be allowed to vote, it would ensure a McCain landslide victory.

I propose a grammar test. You must show you know the difference between they're, their, and there before voting.

why are you voting for mccain MS a concise backed up answer is requested, not a long speach about crazy theories you hold about Obama that are untrue. What issues that Mccain supports are important to you

I can't say I'm really voting "for" McCain. He was my last choice among the GOP candidates, except the kook Ron Paul.

But McCain won't cut and run in the war on terror.

And he doesn't have extremely questionable ties to radical Islamists as does Obama.

I would hope he wouldn't actually entertain the disastrous ideas of creating a total socialist state with these notions of nationalized health care and such. However it is getting annoying to watch him try and out "Santa Claus" Obama in this campaign.

    1) Name the three branches of Gov't: The King/Queen, his/her Court of Jesters (aka Congress) & those nine corrupt judge dudes and dudettes

    2) Name 3 basic Democratic Principles: Blame it all on the elephants, tax the hell out of the little guys, collect payola from lobbyists

    3) Name 3 basic Republican Principles: Blame it all on the donkeys, cut taxes for the rich, collect payola from the lobbyists

    4) Name 2 Supreme Court Judges: Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and starting next season, Kara DioGuardi

    5) Name the current President and Vice President of the United States: Dumbya & Dumber

    6) Name Three Policies or Ideas Barrack Obama stands for: Change, more change, even more change

    7) Name Three Policies or Ideas John McCain stands for: The continuation of Dumbya's failed foreign policies, keeping the country dependent on foreign oil, and if he's lucky, tapping his VP.

    8) Name V.P. candidate for each: Some old corrupt senator named Joe and a chick named Sarah

    How'd I do

I think there should be some sort of test as well. I believe that there are a lot of people that should not be voting, or vote because of the labels Republican and Democrat.

It doesn't need to be difficult, but should ask basic questions to ensure an understanding of our nation.

Really? Is that why Obama polls better than McCain among educated voters?

if this was required, McCain would probably win the popular vote by close to 10%.

I think the opposite..... I see A LOT more educated people voting for Obama. A lot of the country McCain voters aren't educated. This isn't saying all people voting for McCain aren't educated or that all for Obama are.

It's who they target. I just think people need to become more informed and make decisions on their own. I see too many people following their family just because of what they tell them.

My parents are family are very southern and Christian. I'm very scientific and I've always thought for myself and questioned everything. My parents support McCain/Palin and I'm not religious at all and disagree with many Republican viewpoints. I think it's great that we can make our own decisions in this country for ourselves, only if we think for ourselves.

College-educated people voted more often for Bush than Kerry in the last presidential election.

People with advanced degrees go more Democrat, but they're a very small fraction of the population.

The democrats are GUARANTEED to control both houses of congress and possibly reach a 60% filibuster proof majority in the senate.

That is all the reason you need to vote for John McCain.

In the last 40 years, only the Jimmy Carter and Bush II administrations featured the scenario of the same party controlling all 3 branches of the federal government.

This is what causes major problems and leads to our country being run so poorly.

Having an unchecked president is an absolute disaster especially on the democratic side.

The stock market is crumbling and the major economies across the globe are unraveling and we are about to hand over the reins to Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid expecting these 3 to solve all of our problems?

We must be out of our minds.
