Adrian Gonzalez a better player than Mark Teixeira

both are stellar defensive players. mark will have a slight edge there, 4 gold gloves to gonzo's 2.

but gonzalez is an offensive savant. he put impressive numbers playing for the padres in the biggest pitcher park in the majors. he also had no protection in the lineup.

i know the red sox courted teixeira hard when he was a free agent and they were pissed the yankees signed him.

i love watching gonzo hit fly balls that bounce off the green monster for doubles. such a beautiful thing. those balls would be fly ball outs in petco park. i say he wins 2011 al mvp

Who cares? The red sox blow. They scored plenty of runs last year and did nothing to improve their pitching this year. The Crawford signing was only outdone by the Cameron signing the year before. Theo is god awful.

Both are solid. Adrian has a bit more power and can hit it out to all fields consistently.

as a giant fan u should know how much of a beast gonzo is. he played in ur division many years.

based on the short season so far, hes projected to get 217 hits, 34 hr, 132 rbi.

    yeah, mvp caliber

He was a thorn in our side for many years. Was thrilled as any other to see him leave the NL West.

But I think you might be going a bit too far here. I wouldnt be the least bit surprised if he didnt hit .265 this year

hes playing in one of the best hitters parks in the majors in fenway park. his opposite field swing is tailor made for the green monster. now he's got youkilis batting behind him for protection.

those factors will be huge this year

Adrian Gonzalez has been a better player than Teixeira for a long time on both sides of the game. People realizing that now only a result of what happens when you play in San Diego.

Adrian is the better defensive player, it's really not even close.

Yeah it's true. Agree with the defense, agree with the offense. Time will tell the ultimate outcome but they are both top 10 all around 1st basemen in the league. Perhaps top 3.

Actually, comparing career stats, Texiera still has him beat offensively in nearly every category. That said Gonzo is on pace to have a career year.

I love both players, but a prorated average 162 game season for Texieria is 37-120 .285
Those are scary numbers, those are Hall of Fame numbers.
Not to mention Tex has an on base pct of .377 (far above the norm)

Gonzalez's prorated numbers for an average 162 game season are close, even if you factor in the SD factor, but still 1/2 notch below Tex.

Gonzo's numbers are 32-101-.286 on base pct of .369

    Close, but not quite.

To argue who's the better first baseman defensivly is like arguing who's better, Keith Hernandez or Don Mattingly?

When you look at the stats...in many of the categories Gonzalez isn't even close.

HR's Tex 284 to Gonzo 176 (1 year advantage for Tex)
RBI Tex 927 to Gonzo 556
    2B Tex 310 to Gonzo 199
Hits Tex 1353 to Gonzo 951

Gonzo is a solid player....but in all categories he's a step down from Tex. Better on both sides? That's fan blindness...not reality

Compare ABs not years. They have similar stats overall but you should remember that Tex has played in hitters parks and good lineups his whole career while until this season Gonzo has played in just about the worst hitters park in baseball and in an anemic lineup as well.

Both are wayyyyy overrated on defense but Tex is slightly better there. In EVERY other category(except speed obv.) Gonzalez is a better player. Not only that, but in terms of the future, I would not be surprised if Teixera hit .220 with 15hr in any given year in the next 3 years. On the other hand, I would be SHOCKED if Gonzalez hit less than .290 and/or less than 20 hr in any of the next 5 seasons.

I watch 130 + NYY games a year, Tex makes Keith Hernandez plays on a weekly basis.

In every other category Gonzo is better?
    On what planet?

    Tex

Gonzo (sure hits into a ton of DP's, led the league there. )

Being a die hard yanks fan, I would still say it is a close argument for current play. But there is still alot of ball to be played this year.

But career so far I really dont see it.
