Sportsgirl's week 6 NFL picks column

    BOL, everyone

    http://www.citizen-times.com/apps/pb...D=200881010042
NFL picks: No Palmer means no chance for Bengals

An 0-5 Cincinnati team that had little hope going into Dallas last weekend, ended up putting on a show that surprised most. They didn't come out with a win, but just having a chance for victory was impressive.

The Bengals head into New York as only six-point dogs – a deficit that could have been much worse pre-Dallas.

The Jets are coming off a bye week that was preceded by a 56-35 win in Arizona. Jets QB Brett Favre had one of the best games of his career, throwing six touchdown passes. On the flip side, the Jets defense gave up 35 second-half points.

Bengals QB Carson Palmer is unfortunately out with an elbow injury, after going 23 for 39 for 217 with a pair of touchdown throws in the close loss to Dallas. And, when the starting QB is gone, and you’re on the road, and the opposing QB is Favre, it’s looking like a win for the … JETS.

    Chicago at Atlanta:
The Bears visit the Falcons and bring with them the No. 4-ranked rush defense in the league, giving up an average of only 74.2 yards per game. In Atlanta, they meet the No. 2 rushing offense averaging 180.6 yards per game. With RB Michael Turner topping all rushers in the league with 5.3 yards per carry, it looks like a good day to be a fan of the … FALCONS.

    Today’s games
    Chicago (-3) at Atlanta: Atlanta

    Miami (+3) at Houston: Miami

Detroit (+13.5) at Minnesota: Vikings, Detroit +13.5

Oakland (+7.5) at New Orleans: Saints, Raiders +7.5

St. Louis (+13.5) at Washington: Redskins, Rams +13.5

Cincinnati (+6) at N.Y. Jets: Jets, Jets -6

Baltimore (+4.5) at Indianapolis: Colts, Colts -4.5

Carolina (+1.5) at Tampa Bay: Bucs, Bucs -1.5

Jacksonville (+3.5) at Denver: Broncos, Broncos -3.5

Green Bay (+2) at Seattle: Packers

    Dallas (-5) at Arizona: Cardinals

Philadelphia (-4.5) at San Francisco: 49ers

New England (+6) at San Diego: Patriots

    Monday
N.Y. Giants (-8) at Cleveland: Giants, Browns +8

Last week: 10-4 straight up, 7-5-2 spread; overall, 41-30 straight up, 33-37-3 against the spread.

Also hoping your Colts -4½ cashes since I've got 'em -3½ in Beat the Prick and have a very narrow lead over the Ivanator for the office pool

I think you made a good bet, Willie. Balt. won't have the offense to keep up with the Colts in the dome.

That was my thinking as well, Nanc, but then I really know squat about the NFL.

How's everything else going? Any dart tourneys on the horizon?

Not knowing squat is not a confidence builder for me, Willie. Just sayin'

I may be going to the Ghost on the Coast tournament at the end of the month. It's in Myrtle Beach, SC and I really had a blast at it last year.

What's new with you? Loved the new photo of gomez!

Good picks, with a couple of disagreements -- SD will show up this week and play well against NE, because they always play up to and usually exceed the level of a good opponent. Seems like they only lose the trap games this year -- Also I see you're on the Arizona bandwagon... I know you hate Dallas, but that is a strech even for a Dallas hater

    I didn't pick Arizona because I hate Dallas - although, you're right I do
Dallas almost got beat at home by the lowly Bengals and I think they take a hit to the ego out to visit the Cards. Conversely, the Cards killed the Bills last weekend, 41-17. It's a viable pick even without the hatred

You're right, and the Cowboys are down their #1 CB right now, but he hasn't been playing well this year anyway, trying to play through pain... So I'm actually kind of looking forward to seeing Mike Jenkins, Orlando Scandrick, Pacman Jones, and Anthony Henry get more looks on receivers in this game. With Warner known for throwing picks when pressured, and with Ware and Ellis on each side of the line coming at him -- I'm banking on atleast 2 INT's by Dal against him. If they don't get those INT's then there's trouble, but I didn't bet the game big -- Just 1 dime on Dal.

    BOL,

    - Hakrjak

    Good article Sportsfem.

I don't agree with your Indy pick. Baltimore has a much improved offense, and the offense for Indy is not that good any more due largely to the line play. I think Baltimore takes it outright.

I hate Dallas also, and it will be a shoot out in the dessert. Old Warner will come out on top, and it will be the start of the turmoil in Dallas, ala T.O.

I think that it will be a small miracle if St.Louis even covers against Washington. It is a rookie coach, and Washington should take this game handedly, so the only way St. Louis covers is if Washington takes this game lightly.

Carolina just owns Tampa Bay in Tampa.

I think giving 6 to N.E. is a gift. I may buy a point and take them at +7 if I have a good weekend. San Diego's loss last week wasn't a fluke, they have several problems that need addressing, and N.E. is a team that can exploit them.

Good luck this week, you didn't a great job last week.

Nope. But I kinda wish I had the past two weeks. I've been writing this column for 7 years, but this is my first year picking ATS. I think it's going OK
