This would force the Mavs to play Dirk at the 5 and play Brian Cardinal and they would be in trouble.

They could have won the series if they believed before the first game that they could lose. I dont think they thought they would lose this series by any means. Dallas got a good little battle test against Portland in some games, Lakers not so much, all they really did was play around and show no emotion except for maybe one or two games with N.O.
