It's Time to Adjust: Points Betting Only for May

jjGold actually had one good post at SBR. I know that was a long shot, but it's true. Posted something about the sharpest players playing for betpoints only.

Not sure if it's sharps or not. But why feed your own money into sportsbooks any more when you can earn free plays or cash thanks to SBR? This is the wave of the present.

Think about it, as a PRO you get 13 free points to bankroll per day [if you post in the Saloon once]. That's 91 points to bank each week + any SBR trivia points. If you're half the gambler you think you are, you win enough to deposit somewhere and then you've got yourself a true bankroll.

I don't think this has been beat into people's heads enough in today's economy. Take your freebies and make something of them fools. I'm going to do this for the month of May, only points bets. My birthday is in mid-May, so my real cash is going for a weekend of fun somewhere and I'm not donating or tying anything else up in a sportsbook. If I can't earn a free play or some cash in a month, I have no business betting - do I?

Started today with a whopping 30.75 points and went on the Brewers-Astros UNDER 8.5 [+100] to start.

It's taken me many years to learn that free handouts are awesome. There is certain satisfaction to winning big with actual cash, but the fukk with it boys ... high gas prices, increased food prices, whatever .... that's where more of our money goes now. So thanks for the free handout to begin my birthday month SBR. My goal is to get one of the $250 cash plays by the end of May. Watch me try here. Add in your own thoughts on points betting here too and/or pretend to be a high roller who thinks points betting is gay.

There's better value in taking a FP.

Anyway If doing this alleviates you from going bust and out of the game permanently go for it. Besides setting this up as a personal challenge it's really a waste of time if you have any sort of edge. You may think you're saving money but there is opportunity cost you haven't taken into account.

If I was you I would just mess around with a no post shop to get an action fix, bank the points adding the FP/Cash to your accounts until you feel ready to return to the game.

Let's put it this way, it's also a lot easier not to chase losses or play half times lines, etc. with the SBR book's more limited options too. For me, that's where I get into trouble some times. Can have a great day, but try to press my luck on some late BS. With the SBR book, no chance of that. I'm not trying to make a fortune here, if I were out to do that I'd be betting strictly with the regular sportsbooks but I think there's not enough people taking advantage of getting free plays & cash with something that is free to fund. I know I've basically just thrown points away on shit before, but now gonna try to actually use them for something. Anywho, thanks for the input.

If you have tilt/degen tendencies you might want to work on them while doing this. It might turn out to be the most profitable thing for you to do. I don't know if you play poker much but Tommy Angelo's elements of poker book has helped a lot of people I know with similar problems. A lot of the basic principles in the book can be applied to other forms of gambling. If you don't want to read it for whatever reason it's mostly about aligning what you know to be the right action with what you actually do. Pretty simple stuff but hard to achieve. Just keep working on it.

Anyway suffice to say everyone has different motivations and goals. I hope you do well whatever you choose to do.

    Good Luck.

One of my major problems before has been cashing out at the right time. For instance, I have been with 5Dimes almost exclusively and you have to have between a certain amount to be able to cash out. I do a solid job building it up to be able to cash out, but work that into the weekend when cash outs have to wait until Monday. Instead of just sitting on it which might have been smartest, kept going through the weekend since I had been doing well and wound up going on a losing skid that ate about 40% of the profit and then I've been about 50% win rate since and don't wind up being in position to get back to the cash out stage.

Not a major problem, but the tendency when I get in this sort of rut is to start betting bigger to try to make the profits back. That almost always leads to bottoming out, so that's why I'm choosing to go this route right now. I really started to think about it the last couple of weeks and I think it's a smarter way to fund a book IMO without actually dipping into your own coin all the time. Obviously I like the options at regular books better, but you go with what is provided for you when it's a freebie.

I dig your advice mrmarket. Haven't read a lot from you, but guys here oughta pay some attention - you got some good words guy.

I love betting betpoints. I get upset if I lose $100 on a bet, but it aint no sweat off my balls if I lose 100 betpoints. There are always more of those coming.

40 points banked with Isner winning in 3. Now the question is how many years does it take SBR to grade it.

Keep in mind it costs you 1 point for every bet, so its not really worth it to bet less than 20 or so IMO.

I'd usually go all-in with this few points, but wanted to play both those matches I had marked. Would have done an IF bet with all the points, but SBR does not offer than for tennis. Win is a win in any case.

69.63 in the bank after the soccer over hits. Inches away from a clean sweep this morning. Depending on how quick this is graded, a glaring flaw is going to be taken advantage of to double this before tonight ever begins.

I think I feel a lot less pressure playing with points too. Still want to win every time, but it's like if I lose 50 or 100 points - oh well, I can play trivia on Wednesday and maybe get it all right back. Thanks for the good words fellas.

Why aren't you betting with real money? It takes more time to win enough points to buy cash or FP's than make money from the purchases.

I have some money in a book that I still use, but it's not a big balance any more because of a crappy run. As I said earlier, birthday bash this month for me and I am saving up to enjoy a big weekend. So instead of loading up with more money, I am using points this month with the hope that by the end of the month I'll have made enough to get a FP or cash while not having dipped into the party funds.

First of all, why are you paying for your own birthday bash? Get a girlfriend or some better friends
Secondly, how has it taken you 23,000 posts and years on this site to come across the fact that you can use points to make money instead of spending your own money? BUT, you do need to deposit in order to become Pro, so I guess you do need a little money to start.

All sarcasm aside, good luck with this. I have been doing the same and cashing out after 2nd round trivia for a while and have made it up to 1750 points. I'm going for the $250 cash as well. I have been tailing most of your plays in the soccer forum and made good money off you. I usually miss the early plays because of the time difference but those are usually the ones you lose so I've been happy about that. Keep on it!

It wasn't that I didn't realize it, just never really thought about how pointless it was to reload a couple times in succession if you find yourself on a bad run instead of taking advantage of trying to build up through points betting. I said one of my worst problems was I would get on a good run and build up enough to cash out by the weekend, but then suck ass for two days and be out of 5Dimes cashout range. Would fing myself pushing too hard to try and get back to the cashout range and wind up losing more than winning.

I got the girlfriend paying for about half the weekend, but to get the room I want and to have the fun I want, I gotta dish out some coin.
