Cincinnati Reds pitcher Mike Leake was booked into the Hamilton County Justice Center today, accused of theft.
Leake was booked into the jail at 2:32 p.m. by Cincinnati police.
Leake, of Ludlow, was arrested after Macy's department store loss prevention employees stopped the Reds pitcher today after they say he took $59.88 in property from the store.
Police said the incident was caught on security cameras at the Downtown Macy's.
The theft is listed as a misdemeanor. Cincinnati police didn't immediately respond to e-mails asking for more information about Leake's arrest.
The theft charge carries a maximum jail term of 180 days.
According to records, Leake's salary is $425,000 for 2011.
Leake was drafted in the first round of the 2009 MLB draft. He never played a game in the minors, winning a starting pitching job in spring training in 2010.
He was 8-4 with a 4.23 ERA last season with the Reds. This season, he's 2-0 with a 5.40 ERA.
