I am American and I love watching "soccer." I love American football too. Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean you have to dislike it. The one thing I do not like about soccer is all of the flopping and acting on fake injuries. Another thing they could do to make soccer more exciting is take away offsides. That would make the game explosive, and much more entertaining.

For people who like soccer, you really shoudl be rewarded a medal for being able to stomach such a boring, no-action, nothing-ever-happens, no excitement sport. Golf, paint drying and grass growing is boring to watch, but soccer is on another level of boredom. I can't think of anything more boring, less interesting and less gratifying. Even a middle school dance has more scoring than soccer, a wall drying has more accomplishment. Soccer is like Seinfeld, a sport for no purpose, no statistical achievement, no winning.

Now if you drop a sport like soccer – all feet, some head and no hands – it’s like asking someone to walk on their hands instead of their feet. It’s not easy to switch around to compeletely different way of playing a sport.
This is the primary reason why when you see the MLS, the terms ‘long-ball’ and ‘headless chicken’ come to mind.

Agree on the hands. Our parents haven't played soccer so the first thing they do is play catch with us. It's not until later we learn footwork. But we do produce some of the best goalies for the same reason.

This will change. In the past 5-10 years a lot of England coaches are coming over making a good living. "Premiere" clubs are popping up all over and 10 years ago US soccer added boarding school in Florida which is what English clubs do. Now that these kids are parents, we'll have many more young players. The current kids don't have the creativity other countries do because they are produced players. The next group will be more instinctual as they start out playing freestyle for fun.

Not getting any of the World Cups in the US definitely set us back a few years. That was brutal.
