Baseball crowds are built on sunflower seeds and hot dogs. And we call them Native Americans here pal...the dudes with the axes.

My bad, apologies to any native Americans on the board, John Wayne called them Indians but I do realise that was 40-years-ago.

Native "Americans" is a misnomer, they are native Indians.

The "American" part was forced on them. I'm sure they would rather have been left alone and not killed off.

How come they are native Indians if they are in America? You don't call English native Saxons, right?

America was invented after most natives were eliminated, either by war or disease.
The natives were there & here first.

all you need is a round object and some shoes...in some places you can play without shoes.

    MLB? lol.

The most exciting action, in my opinion, is NHL. Nothing comes close to that if you like fast-paced.

The advantage that the NFL has over soccer is that even a game between bad teams can be fun to watch, whereas soccer has to be played at the highest level to be entertaining.

Funny thing is that nobody has a clue about what's really happening on the field in the NFL. People see the end result of a play, but rarely understand all the stuff that went into it.
hard to disagree with horse. Hockey is my fav sport.

American sports are all hype. Baseball? Half the time you spend watching the pitcher rub his forehead, scratch his ass, squeeze the ball. Talk about watching grass grow. Don't get me wrong, I used to be a huge fan. But it's more mystique and culture than athletics and teamwork.

Soccer is a pure sport that at the highest levels exhibits great skill, awareness and of course stamina. If there were ways to hype it up and insert commercials the corporations would make sure you believe it to be the greatest sport.

Why do people in other countries watch soccer on TV?

Some tell me, why does NFL get no fans for TV viewership overseas but soccer is the most watched sport in the world? Why would people want to watch soccer over the NFL? I can understand no other country can afford plastic and foam needed for pads and helmets, but why not watch it on TV when the NFL has been giving global feeds for years?

The simpsons had a nice perspective on soccer.

they showed a game where a team boringly kicked the ball back and forth. and the american announcer was bored calling the game. then they show the spanish announcer and he is screaming like it was the most exciting thing he had ever seen.

Ever watched rugby? Kind of like NFL but where the men are real men and don't have body armour and there aren't flags 3 times per minute and it's on of the biggest sports in the world (yep, even bigger than NFL).

Just when I think you can't get any dumber, you pull out a gem like this.

I've never seen a soccer player score a goal with a stick. Maybe I'm not looking close enough.

Ice hockey is like field hockey but on ice. Soccer is the most entertaining sport in the world. Elephants or monkeys can play soccer. That's how easy it is.

Always trying to pick a fight, rjt721. Aside from the fact that...

    1) Soccer is played on grass, hockey is played on ice

    2) Soccer uses a spherical leather ball, hockey uses a vulcanized rubber disk

    3) Soccer players make contact the ball using their feet, ice hockey players make contact with the puck using a curved stick

    4) Soccer has 11 players per side, hockey has 6 per side

...as well as other numerous points I can't be bothered to mention since I'll be here all night, ice hockey and soccer are the same game.

True. I think that's what ryanxl meant -- other than the 873,267 differences, soccer and hockey are the same thing.

I just came to the conclusion that tennis and baseball are the same. Baseball is tennis without the net in the middle of the court. Both sports use a round ball. Same thing. Amazing.

That's true, nobody outside America can afford a football helmet but they all wish to play and watch it and football would be the most popular sport in other countries if they could afford it. Foreigners yearn and ask for real sports, its sad that they are so poor they can't afford them, they have to resort to soccer, they have to downgrade to soccer, we here on the other hand don't have to we have money and choices, they don't, they'd all hate soccer like we do if they had real sports.

I don't think he meant the gameplay, not logistics. The gameplay of hockey and soccer and the purpose of their game play is similar. Two teams each pass a ball/puck around and have the freedom to run/skate around until they get the ball/puck to the other side and shoot/slapshot the ball/puck into the net. Obviously there are differences like the scale of the field, the # of players, running on grass vs skating on ice....etc, but the point is still the same, to get the ball into the other teams net.

Other countries are not as poor as people think. Just look at these so called poor countries like Iraq. You can't avoid all the documentaries they have on round the clock where Saddam had toilets made of solid gold and I'm pretty sure if you have gold toilets you can afford a few football helmuts. Even look at China we owe them trillions of dollars and they could give a shit about football. Most countries don't see the stupidity of getting your skull crushed on every play and getting concussions is a normal occurence.
