Because Halladays has such awesome assortments of pitches that he can throw for strike. Which one do you sit on?

Better to take a strike than look like a fool whiffing at something in the dirt.

The strike zone is 12 inches by 18 inches rectangle (plus/minus). The bat is 2 to 3 inches wide. The ball travels at an unknown velocity when it crosses the strike zone. Hitting the ball when a strike is thrown is not automatic.

And Halladay's delivery is so good, the ball is always moving within the strike zone.

He is as good as it gets.

You should apply to become a hitting coach.

Let me just say Im not guaranteeing they hit the ball or well enough to get a hit, there is not a better pitcher in baseball than Halladay right now imo, but if you KNOW the guy is gonna throw a strike you might as well swing as you're gonna get charged for a strike anyway. If you cant hit any of his strikes then you've got a problem, in other words your ******, but you're better off swinging at the 1st pitch that you know is gonna be a strike rather than tryin to guess later on

The teams that got the best of Halladay were hacking, like San Francisco on the series against Philly. A hacker hitter (Cody Ross) was the one who took him deep.

Its all rigged, theyd hire some steroid overdosin idiot former player that tells them to take the 1st pitch strike and then swing on the 2nd pitch sinker while a genius like me has to provide this level of insight for free to a bunch of degenerates that would have the Astros up 3-0 right now

I think its the fact to try to get his pitch count high against any great pitcher you want to get his pitch count up so you can get him out of the game

I understand what they're doin but scorin runs helps alot more than addin a couple extra pitches to his pitch count, you got a pitcher for the Astros that's not gonna give up more than 2 or 3 runs in this weather condition, if you can take one of those first pitch fastballs deep you're bout halfway to a tie

That said Halladay is now thowin nothin but 1st pitch balls, soooooo..... lol

Because usually Pitchers only throw 70 to 80 pitches in there first regular season outing, so it's probably a strategy to get his pitch count high, so he leaves earlier than expected. And just because you swing at the 1st pitch doesn't mean you will get on base. Look at the Phillies. They are jumping all over Myers 1st pitch and have 2 hits to show for it!

Halladay's so economic with his pitch count... Very hard to wait him out. This guy is a ******* machine.
Just hope you can manufacture a run against him and hope your starters can shut down the phillies.

Just like the world champion SF Giants did...

Bourn looks at a pitch right down the middle and then pops out on a ball. Damn.

    Waittttt just a minute

I didnt say Myers had a 67% 1st pitch strike average last year like Halladay's highest in the league, jumpin allover a 1st pitch ball is obviously helpin the pitcher

Halladay starting to leave the ball up in the k-zone. 89 pitches through 5.0 innings, hopefully the Astros can get at least 1 run here.

1-0 thru 6, 4-2 thru 7, standard baseball, maybe I was lucky to have timed out
