In the grand scheme of things, the US has little bearing on the popularity of a GLOBAL sport like European football. The 400 million people in South America, 500 million in the European Union, 1+ billion people in China, India and the African continent mean that the 300 million people in the US have virtually NO INFLUENCE on the popularity of soccer worldwide. Even if the US hasn't adopted soccer, why is it that it is by far the most recognized and popular sport worldwide? Soccer doesn't need the US to maintain its status as the world's most popular sport.
