That's is something to consider..

These cops just didn't care about the kids that much.. Selfish and don't deserve to wear a badge... They knew what was going on.. They had to know kids were getting shot and killed...

Law enforcement FAIL!!!!!
And the thing is, this guy could've killed the shooter without facing him. The officer had one advantage the shooter didn't, the element of surprise. An active shooter's goal is to cause as much carnage as possible, so he doesn't have the luxury of being discrete or hiding since that hinders his goal. The officer, could've used his knowledge of the layout of the school to his advantage in going in and finding the shooter by the sound of the gunshots.

The best case scenario would be getting behind the shooter and putting a round in his back without him even realizing what hit him. Is there more than one hallway to get around the shooter and get behind him? Is there a room/storage with multiple exits like a storage room where you can go in one end and out the other to get behind the shooter and take an open shot at him?

Even if you have to face him, you try to find cover before engaging him. Then when you engage him, if you miss, take cover. He's going to have to come to you now if he wants to take you out (and him focusing his attention on you is taking his attention away from other potential victims). If he has to get close to you since you're behind cover to try and take you out, his AR is not as useful as your handgun at close contact. By then, he may turn the gun on himself since a lot of these shooters are on a suicide mission and in the past turned the gun on themselves when they felt the cops were closing in. He didn't have to go in guns blazing like Rambo and been an open target (and ruin your surprise advantage). Instead, he did nothing and let 17 people die.
