The reason the 2nd amendment use to be practical was because the guns the citizens and militia had were on par with those that the military had, it truly did level the playing field between the people and the gov't, so the 2nd amendment was quite useful.

Now, it has no use. The idea of the 2nd amendment was never intended to give citizens guns to hunt with or for home protection (two common arguments amongst 2nd amendment wack jobs) but to ensure the security of a free state through a well armed militia. It was for the common good, not the good of an individual.

It's no longer applicable as the military weaponry is 1000's times more advanced than whatever rifle is available to a citizen. Anyone that thinks a well armed people protects us from tyranny of gov't is a fool. If the gov't wanted to use the military to squash the people, we'd be dead regardless of how many AR's were owned.

2nd amendment is no longer applicable until the gov't allows citizens the right to own F-16's and nuclear rocket launchers.
