But capping hockey is probably the toughest thing out there.... kind of like baseball.

Stopped wagering on hockey probably 6 years ago. I might wager a playoff game here or there...

I started gambling 16-17 years ago with hockey. Back when Colorado was solid... with Joe Sakic... Deadmarsh etc. Made like $1,500 early... I think it was beginners luck. Never made a penny since.
I hear ya Money...but if you love the game and if you follow it very closely--there is money to be made.
Just gotta stay patient...pick 5-7 teams to follow and learn everything about their roster, coaching stuff...their style of play...etc.
Don't be afraid to adjust your strategy on the fly...if something doesn't work, don't sit on it for too long - try something new.

Every year you'll have to come up with a new model...pick new teams to follow (because of the roster changes)...figure out what type of bets you wanna pursue the most.
You can't just pick dogs day after day and expect to win - It doesn't work that way.

You have to do your homework, just like when you bet any other sport.

If you're willing to spend time on it - You'll do alright.
