It has done everything the MLB wanted it to do. For 2 or 3 days, MLB owns the sporting news while the wild card games are going on. NFL was barely talked about the last 2 days.

It makes teams actually fight to win the divisoin, something that wasn't there before as long as you had the wild card locked up.

It gets 10 teams to the "postseason", and makes much more fanbases super excited as the season nears the end as their team has a shot.

It definitely sucks for the team that gets knocked out, but that's life. If the Cubs got left out this year despite having the 3rd best record in all of MLB, they would have been pissed too.
