I can't believe for a second anyone is blaming this on poor Pete. What a perfect situation they had set up, 2nd and goal at the 1 yard line to win back to back superbowls against the cheaters from New England that everyone naturally despises. With enough time and timeouts remaining to make the perfect play call Pete and Co. did just that. They knew if they ran with Marshawn Lynch 3 times he would easily get stopped by powerful Vince and the mighty Minkovich. So they called the perfect play.

Pete Carroll didn't want to beat the cheating, smelly, never washes his clothes Bellicheck on 3 traditional runs. No ole Pete's a sly one deep down. He wanted to do something dirtier than Bellichecks clothes, enter Ricardo Lockette. From the prestigious Fort Valley State, unluckily cut by the Niners and more recently Bears. Ricardo had quite the season with 11 catches and 2 TD's, falling just shy of a pro bowl bid. The play was set, forget Lynch or the more sure handed Willson, Baldwin, Kearse or the emerging Matthews, were going to Lockette, arguably our worst player. It was perfect, no one would suspect passing to your worst WR on the goal line, everything went to plan, and then as the ball was snapped it all hit Carroll. Wait, a quick slant to our worst receiver...Sure enough this young journeyman, and bench player failed to properly get inside position because well he was the worst WR on the team, and the rest is history.
